Just ordered the parts for the utility box that is fitted to the new 05 versions (like the cabrio). This is the storage tray with rubber lining that fits in front of the 2 cup holders.
Should be handy for the sunglasses / money for the bridge tolls.
Parts are about £7.50 total:)

Utility Box 51-16-7-121-738
Rubber insert 51-16-7-125-693

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! I paid about £20 for an aftermarket one not long after I got my car. I don't have a rubber insert either!

Ken, it may be loud but I love the colour coded option!

I found another article that said it is possible to fit the new box without going to the bother of removing the pillars etc. I'll try that first!

Yeah i thought that seemed a bit OTT, will try before removing the pillars also.

Advice from Paul Mullet:
Here is how he did it:
Removed single torx screw.
Took out current piece angling it through the gap behind the down tube.
Put new one in basically the same way, angled it through, being careful not to mark anything.
Clip into place.
Massaged the lip under the gearleaver section.
Replaced screw.
Put in rubber mat.
Took about 5 minutes.

Yep, I managed to do it that way as well, a bit fiddly but easier than removing the pillars I would say. Had to loosen the screws out of the cup holders to get the lip of the new box underneath.

Well done, I seemed to have a bit of a struggle with mine - I had to bend the thing quite a lot, but got there in the end.:clown:

The cup holders are quite good for the iPod as well :)

when i visited my dealer to see about ordering these parts he swore blind that they wouldnt fit my MINI. He said he'd also had someone else in asking about this and he told him same thing... his excuse was that it was something to do with the heater unit being of a different design to the 05 & cabrio models

anyone else told similar dribble?
