View Full Version : Power Mat for iPhone

In a display of utter laziness I now feel I can't even be arsed actually holding the charger cable and physically plugging it into the bottom of my iPhone. So I've bought one of these to make the whole charging process as effortless as possible.
Power Mat (http://www.powermatEU.com/pm_uk/)
Works a treat. Only problem is that it let's out a shrill cheep-cheep sound each time the phone is placed on the mat and each time it's taken away from the mat and as I often use the iPhone as a torch as I make my way to the toilet at 4am to make sure I don't stand on half chewed dog toys or even worse, sleeping dogs, sooner or later it's gonna wake Lenore.

How is the case that the iPhone is in? Does it add much bulk?

So as one gets on in years one needs to go for a pee more regularly during the night? :p
If so thats a real nuisance and I aint looking forward to old age.

Can this be used with the case in place. I have a otter box case could not be bothered removing every time I wanted to charge the phone.

What about one of these just next to the bed, just swivel you legs over the side of the bed! No chirping charge mats, no woken partners and no trampled dogs, everyone's a winner!

It's actually a new case that slips over the phone, much like a clam case would. it adds about 3 to 4 mm at the bottom of the phone and there's a rectangular section on the back of the case that acts as the charging magnet and it protudes from the back of the case by about 2 mm. Had it in my shirt pocket or trouser pocket all day and it feels no different to my former carbon fibre case.

I'm sure I could rouse a battery from somewhere in the house. Good idea.

Aye, it's no ball game Ian. Let me know how you get on next year and we'll compare notes.

No Fi, the existing case has to be removed - at least for the iPhone it does - as the charger bit for the phone is actually a new case. So, no need to keep removing a case just to charge - unless you don't want to use the case they give you, in which case, there's little point in the power pad, as you'd be just as well plugging in the little plug rather than changing the whole case over just to avoid plugging the plug in. Not sure if that makes sense or not.

Got one of those Power Mat thingie for my x'mas a couple of year ago from my son. However, I don't use it for helping me to go to the toilets in the middle of the night like AndyP

Check when the iPhone 5 is out mate, don't think it's too far away, so may be worth waiting a couple more month's y'know?

How much was it in Costco Andy? I see it's £40 for the cover on the powermats website, which would be interesting to see how much cheaper costco is!
