View Full Version : R53 sludge on dipstick

I've just been out to check my oil level and when I pulled out my dipstick it had a small amount of sludge on it. I cleaned it off and popped it in again, but this time nothing came out.

I checked the oil filler cap, normal. I checked the water tank, normal and started the engine, rechecked the dipstick and no more sludge.

I know the tell tale signs of head gasket failure, but I've got a feeling (hopefully) that my current issue is just due to damp cold weather and condensation in the dipstick downpipe itself.

Anyone suffered the same?

Cheers

John

Obviously I hadn't put my brain into gear before writing the title, clearly it should read dipstick not gearstick! Sorry

If any kind moderator has the ability to change my title or delete my post and I will re-post correctly, that would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

To answer the question, yep, highly likely that it's due to the very damp weather

If you have any concerns get an extra oil change done including the filter

^^ due to the boosted nature of the R53 engine, I've always changed the oil at least every 7k miles

Blimey, I've done 12k and the service indicator still says I've got 6k to go!
