i am thinking of getting bigger alloys, 16 or 17 inch,
but will this affect the speedo & gearing, is there any
thing that can be done to correct speedo reading & how
much ££££.. ? will bigger wheels slow me up when as i dash
of from the lights racing a skoda DIESEL........ trying
to prove clarkson wrong :p

i went from 16 to 19 without any problems, its a bit heavier but i'm a cruiser so it doesnt matter ;)

As long as you change the profile of the tyres you use to keep the overall diameter the same then you'll have no probs. Remember MINI already comes with 15-17" tyres without changes to the speedo.

Bigger wheels may slow you down as they are likely to be heavier. Ride quality is also likely to be stiffer as you have less rubber side wall.
