hi looking for some advice /help .we are new to the mini ownership /cooper 07 model with 17" wheels and wondering if standard steel wheels would fit car with winter tyres ?

I think 16's is the smallest you can go with the R56 S as the brakes on it are ex JCW R53 ones..... I think Duncan S wanted to put 15's back on his car, but couldn't.

If its a cooper rather than an S then 15s will fit fine.

I think standard steel wheels from a Nov 2006 on Mini (R56) will fit your car OK.
Bigger brakes were fitted to the Mk2 new Mini (R56) so if buying second hand wheels check they are from a R56 and you should be OK

Yeah winter tyres are currently like hens teeth !! I buy mine in the summer... ;)

hi .i will try to be better set up for next winter /i guess buying winter tyres in summertime would be cheaper ?

In my experience it was.. My tyres are now 30% more expensive at the moment (if) you can get them ;)

My winters were £75 you can only get them as a runflat now costing £183, the nearest similar size is £120 but this is the common 205/55 fitting and its not ideal on a MINI.

So that's £480 compared to £300 for 16" tyres, ouch.

hi /i am a bit late in replying computer playing funny b /////// .anyway bit the the bullet and bought new steel wheels /winter tyres from j.c.aberdeen /they have made a huge differance to driving in the snow /thanks to all on advice etc .and j.c. aberdeen .jim in the partsdept . cheers Dennis .
