View Full Version : 2010/11 Snow Pics Thread

It's that time of year again.

To avoid multiple snow pics threads, post your snow pics here for the winter 2010/11 season. Any new threads will be merged into this thread.

Last year's pics thread was here. (http://www.newminiscotland.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?19248-Post-your-snow-pics-here-winter-2009-10)

It's in a nice new home in the Photography Section, instead of Off Topic.

Will sticky this until spring.

Thanks Andy! I thought seems I asked for the photography I might as well kick off the 2010/11 winter snapping season ;)

Not spent a great deal on these two pics, literally just opened the door, took some pics, and went back inside again lol! Just purely wanted to show how ridiculous the snow we have already!!!!!

What model of Merc?
Does it not have a manual button as well as the auto?
I can select manual and use the paddles on steering wheel, not to bad in snow last year considering rear wheel drive and really wide tyres.

CLC 180 Kompressor...... I did mention about using manual and switching off the traction control, but I am told it didn't help. She had to have 3 people push her and when that didn't work, she got a tow....

It was -9 here in Glasgow last night. The snow is back on heavy and there must be six inches out there.

P.S is the usual I-phone cammera a bit dull when taking pic's? It was bright out side but the pics did not look it.

I'm a newcomer, only lived here 4 years. Quite often at the motox track at Argaty with my nephews.

Just got a garage in the village, but my wife's car is a Smart Roadster and leaks like a sieve, so mine has to live in the street.

Well we have been pretty much snowed in today... we live at bottom of the hill on our estate so have ended up helping those who got stuck!

Rear wheel drives really do suck! Best performer on our estate has been the Audi TT up the road that just ploughs through it all no problems!

I hate the stuff with a passion, sorry but I don't do snow one iota.
Makes my job ten times harder and the stress levels in some folk go off the scale.
My drivers can have a helluva time, stuck out on the road for a couple of days, not to mention the risks involved driving units & trailers in white outs.

Oh and Alfie (my Westie) canny get enough of it, seriously thinking of getting him one of those flashing collars as I canny see him half the the time lol

local shop keepers are TWATS end off.......... our guys are working 24 hours to get the finished milk out to local shops and also the supermarkets, you have to remember the tankers have to get into the farms first to get the RAW milk, the farmers have to work 24 hours to keep their roads clear.... driving a tanker down a farm road with a moving load is not easy.

Have to confess family originate from your neck of the woods so am fairly familiar with some of the landmarks. My great grandfather drove the first motorised vehicle into Penan and if I mention my Granny's maiden name was West I guess you wont need many guesses to identify the north-east village she originated from!!

How sad is it when the highlight of the day is when a snow plough comes up your street. What a frikking week!!!!

Like most, Winter 2010-11 for us started overnight from Friday to Saturday. Woke up to about 6". Lots of snow on the ground too. Sorry, couldn't resist. We thought, OK, if this is it that's not too bad. But we've then had another 4 to 6"'s every night since then. We're now on our 6th day of this cr@p and we're fed up of it. Keep clearing the drive only to wake up and find another 6"'s of snow on the ground and that takes another 2 hours to clear. Seems like we've spent all week clearing our own drive, Lenore's folks drive, my own folks drive or our neighbours drive.

Anyway, enough ranting.... Some pics for your visual entertainment. Taken on the cusp of dusk (I'm a poet and didn't even know it) so they may look a bit dark.

Thats the thing with this weather just now. As soon as you get the driveway cleared, get back in the house, your boots off and you get sat down.... Look out the window and all your hard work has been undone by the next fall of snow.:argh::argh::argh::argh::argh:

There is a few on the Mini cherished site but I feel like the Cooper S are just over priced! You get to the price that you think I'd be wanting a “Works” for that.

MINI Cooper D Countryman 1.6 for around 23K love the fact it gets 60 MPG, my friend is getting her All 4 Countryman S this month, she needs in now all the same with this snow.

Sainsbury Muirend is the shop I've been going to as it’s a nice 30 min walk from the house. But as Ladymack will tell you as she works there even on the worst days of the snow I was in and all was fine, full shelves. In fact I could pick the bread with the furthest sell by date at the back.
It could be that the central belt was hit hard around you Craig. The other day the Girl was joking at the till in Gifnock ( credit crunch what credit crunch.) but I think that was because a lot of people waited till the weekend to do there big shop and it was busy as the main roads were fine.

is that some ruffwear I see your dogs wearing???

The Dogfather
5th December 2010, 05:14 PM
It is Fi, Elliott's is the Palisades Pack (http://www.outdoorgb.com/p/ruffwear_palisades_pack_ii/?utm_source=froogle&utm_medium=directory&utm_content=GBR&currency=GBP&country=GBR&SelectedBundle=149846) whereas Freya's is just the harness. It keeps them safe in the car but acts as a handle to pick them up when they get unruly or need lifting over a fence.

Scottie
5th December 2010, 05:17 PM
I like the ruffwear really good kit. use the harness, leads and collars. The pack is handy and they can carry their own leads saves me from doing it.

I have this for Archie with all this snow he was struggling getting a decent walk as he was always balling up. Hurtta is good kit also.

Collies aren't an easy dog to look after, they need lots of attention and need something to keep them occupied or they find their own job which might be something you don't want them to do. Oh, you also have to be careful with them around kids as they tend to nip fast moving objects.

I heard the transport manager pulling all lorries from deliveries this morning there was to many stuck that it is costing us a fortune to get them recovered.
