JCW gets the Works

I got round to giving my car a good tidy up recently.
It had seen a bit of neglect and hurried washing due to being so busy at the weekends.


The following pics show what was done.

First job was to jet wash round all of the car and get the loose dirt off

I went to the engine bay first. This was sprayed with APC and agitated with the horsehair brush. The underside of the bonnet was sprayed with APC and wiped with a microfibre wash mitt. Some stubborn areas that had spray grease on them was cleaned up using Megs Super Degreaser.
It was then all jet washed clean.

Next the door checks were sprayed with APC and agitated with the brush and then jet washed clean

In order to get the under arches cleaned properly I jacked the car up using my trolley jack doing one arch at a time. I gave them a thorough jet washing out then gave them a good spraying of APC and agitated them with a brush before jet washing them clean.
They weren't too bad to be honest as I jet wash them out every time I wash the car. I just wanted to get right about them so jacked the car up.

The car was then foamed using Megs hyper wash with some APC added in.
The car was then washed 2 bucket method using a lambswool mitt and shampoo.


The paintwork and exterior glass and light lenses were clayed using Megs clay and last touch as lube.
Hardly anything came off so no pics of this stage.


I then taped up plastic trim and gave the car a polish using my new Milwaukee rotary with a 3M yellow pad and Megs 205 polish. The swirls were fairly minimal and the 205 seemed to get rid of them after 2 or 3 passes.
Some after pics of the panels. No LSP on them as yet, just polished then wiped over with IPA to remove any oils.

Then it was back outside for another foam to get rid of any polishing dust.

and dried off using my cheapo Argos leaf blower

The task was given to my wee sister. She used Megs metal polish and some fine wire wool

I then turned my attention to the wheels.
These were removed one at a time and given a thorough wash with autosmart smart wheels non acidic wheel cleaner

They were then sprayed with autosmart tardis and agitated with microfibre cloth before being jet washed again to remove any tar.


They looked very clean at this point but I decided to try out my newly purchased iron cut.
Sprayed some iron cut on the wheel and within about 20 seconds it had all turned purple due to the chemical reaction so it was obviously doing its stuff and getting rid of metal contaminants that had come from the brake discs.

The wheels were then jet washed again and dried before being polished with Jeffs prime strong and then sealed with poorboys wheel sealant.
The tyres were dressed with Gloss it signature tyre gloss.

I then decided to paint the hubs as they were looking a bit tatty.
The rear callipers were moved aside which also allowed me to re-grease the runners as they were squeaking a bit.

This was repeated at all four corners although the front callipers didn't need to be removed.


The interior was given a vacuum out and a wipe down everywhere using a very mild APC as it really wasn't that bad.
The seats were cleaned using APC and then treated with Raceglaze leather balm.
The carpet mats were cleaned using the George machine

The piano black dash and door trims were polished using poorboys black hole glaze.
The glass was done inside and out with Megs glass cleaner spray.


Finally it was time to add the LSP to the car.
I wanted to get myself something new and give myself a wee treat so I bought this kit from P.B.

Firstly the Gloss it Gloss finish was applied by hand and allowed to sit for 30 mins before being removed.


Second coat was a spray of Gloss it Gloss enhancer.


Last coat was the Gloss it Concorso, it was also applied by hand and allowed to sit for 30 mins before being buffed off. The door checks and inside edges also had Concorso applied.


The black plastic trims were dressed using Chemical Guys trim Gel.

I was at my car today for six hours today and that was still only a foam, wash, quick De-tar & quick wash over and rinse of the tar areas. Then polish and Seal (BFWD) and the windows out side polished and sealed and lower outside trim done with Autosmart . That should do it over winter with the LSP on it.

I’ve still got the inside to do and an attempt on the wheels. :argh:

Thanks guys for all the comments. I genuinely do enjoy making a car look its best.

I had the help of my mate Paul for about 3 hours of it. My wee sister helped with bits such as removing polish, sealant dust etc.

I carried out the detail a bit at a time after work for nearly 2 weeks as my Dad was on holiday so I had his TT. The car was then left in my garage for a further 2 weeks as I went away on hols the same day my Dad came back so the car had a well deserved month off.

My has a few that you can see in certain light on the dash. Any ideas how to cover them/remove them?

Thanks a LOT Ian, I now feel even more ashamed than usual.

When I get organised (!) I'll have to get you to give G3 ELF a proper sorting out. Just seeing how the black pillars came out was a revelation! My car looks OK, but it would look FAB with the I.K. Treatment. I like to keep it decent, but I never seem to find the time or the patience to do it 'properly', and I don't have half the gear I need to get the job done if I had the opportunity. I DO use a wash mitt and TWO BUCKETS though! The ROOF in particular just drives me mad - no matter what I throw at it, rub into it or polish it with, it's still swirlier than a swirly thing that's been on the Waltzers. 'Twas ever thus.....

I'll be using my wee Pug 106 during the Winter, so hopefully it'll spare the MINI the worst of the weather this year. But a wee session with 'The King' before the Winter sets in might be a good idea. "Thangyouverrimuch Uh-Huh!"

Yes my piano black interior is covered in marks. Scuffs from shoes hitting it on the way in and out, seatbelt hitting against it. Even fingers being used to open the storage compartment leaves scratches.
The black hole just helps hide them for a bit.
They can be removed and machine polished with a finishing polish but I just ran out of time.

Meguires G220 pollisher is a good middle of the range unit. I find mind brilliant and had no complaints. There are some good starter kits available. I paid about £190 for the machine 2 pads and 2 grades of cutting compound. There are loads of good instructional videos on youtube and on the megs site.
