Came across a brand new set of mini steelies with the new winter tyres so have bought these for Dougall. Think its going to feel a bit weird driving on little 15s but will give me an opportunity to refurb the pace alloys and get them re-shod for spring.

Noice one.
Av 15" steelies for winter too!
Gives a better ride and awesome grip :)

No doubt a good idea but I don't think I could do that.

Great grip in the snow, but not so good the rest of the time unfortunately.
17s with WRG2s are actually quicker than normal tyres below 7C, I suspect the 15s (if they are 175s) would only be quicker when there's snow on the ground.

I thought about doing this but I understood that 15 steelies didn't fit the 56 may re think my plans now.

Thank goodness because to be honest I hadn't clicked about the difference between 17s and 15s. Had a bit of a panic thinking I'd have to cancel the order. Not too fussed if they're a bit slower as long as they stick to the road. Gives me a chance to decide what to do with the alloys as they need some minor repairs to get rid of kerbing damage. Not sure whether to stick with silver or bite the bullet and go black. Will the steelies affect fuel consumption?

the steelies won't but winter tyres are usually 2-3 mpg down

Hi Fi. According to the seller's blurb the steelies will fit your car. I've got these for £420. I guess that's an okay price. Guy is advertising five sets for sale. I can put up a link if you or anyone else for that matter is interested.
