Well I'm just back from doing a 1200 mile tour of Scotland, we hired a massive motorhome and carried out a reccie of most of next year's Highland and Island Tour. We had to miss a couple of bits out due to the size of the van (3.5 tonnes and 7m long) i.e. Quiraing and Applecross and the bit around the Torridon and the Gairloch because of time.

The weather was amazing if a little windy up in Durnes and we managed to get some good photos.

Some of the new bits i.e. the road to Maillaig and the run around the Trottenish Peninsula were great and will be fun to drive in a MINI. Anyhoo here's the photos!

Alan, the pics are smaller than on NM, is there a resize plugin?

Here's the NM thread (http://forums.northernmini.co.uk/showthread.php?5145-Highland-and-Island-Tour-Reccie-Photo-Thread), the pics are less than 1024 but here they look to be half that.....

Given the fact that I was in a motorhome I didn't catch up with much, mind you I did pull over a lot on the single tracks ;)

Tis gods country indeed :yes nod:

I have always fancied doing such a trip in a motorhome, any pics of the 'van'.
How many days did you hire as I see Struans in Perth do a 5 day hire up to 30/6 for £375 for a 4 berth.

Just need to convince the Mrs to be, as camping is simply oot of the question :frown:

www.admotorhomes.co.uk should be some pics on there, we are now looking at buying a used smaller van as this was a bit big for the Lakes. I bid for it on ebay and got it for £450 for a week, only downside was the £1250 excess on the insurance.

Paul firstly I hate you:lol: :p;)that looks amazing and I now wish even more that I was going on this next year.

Properly jealous looks like you guys had a great time. Got to say too those pics are epic what did you shot them with (don't say a camera) they are quite stunning, looks like a bunch of postcards.

It turns out I now have another reason why I can't go to this event.:D;)

Alan, they should be at 1024 as I resized them to that max, its odd if I look at the pics on here they are resized but if I look at the pics direct or on NM they are the full 1024.

Great photos Paul, really stunning :thumbs up:. Looks like you had fantastic weather for the trip - must have been fun in the camper van too.

That is the camera I have too . I think it is great, plus it is relatively compact for a DSLR. I've not shot in RAW format before - do you think that gives better results or do you prefer it for editing purposes?

Fantastic you got the weather Paul and the pictures are stunning, love the Dog’s on the beach. Like myself last week its great being part of the Mini crowd but also nice to do a run yourself and stop when ever you fancy for a quick Pic.

I’m thinking next year after Thurso if the weather good to retrace the trip and do a few Camping nights at Applecross just to have the time to go down to beaches etc and take the place in more.

It’s the Outer Hebrides next then. My friend did it last year and mostly wild parked as it were right next to some stunning beaches. Most of the time it was him, the wife and the kid and dog and there own Beach in the morning in his huge Merc Camper Van.

Glad you all enjoyed yourself.

Don't say my great uncle* was a cattle thief :p

I have to say I'm really looking forward to this. When you see it so crisp and clear there is not better place on earth.

Amber it’s a very relaxed run and if you've not driven up the west coast then its going to blow you away if we get the weather. Every year its been that wee bit different with the same core roads and it should be interesting going on the Ferry.
