I know a few folks on here like their MTB's so was just wondeing if any of you had a fairly decent MTB gatheiring dust in your garage/ shed that you wanted rid of for the right price?
My current steed is looking like it's soon gonna need some cash spent on it and for the price of the parts required (forks, gears bearings etc) i'd be as well buying a new one.
So.....anyone got anything? I do most of my riding up the Pentlands or at Glentress so my budget is pretty low.... up to £300 at a push.
Cheers

Wul, I don't have anything lying about, but the new frames are just coming out so you might get some of last years bike a bit cheaper?
Evans and Wiggle have a couple of Treks and Felts that look ok about your budget.

For 300 quid I think you'll struggle to get a semi-decent full floater Wul:frown: I sold my '98' B-17 Marin for that kinda money  You should be able to pick up a decent hardtail tho:thumbs up: I take it you've looked on fleabay :computer:
(Just noticed.......4000 posts.....woohoo....need to get a life...lol)

Cheers lads - yeh realise my budget's a bit keen for a full floater but shy kids get no sweets as they say! ;)
Keeping my peepers peeled on Gumtree, Fleabay is a scary place for secondhand bikes IMHO, I won an auction once for a specialised roady for £250, as it was local I emailed the seller to say I would pay cash rather than Paypal, within a day the sellers account had been cancelled - phew a lucky escape!
A full suspenison would be a nice to have, but a decent hardtail would be good.
So thoughts on the best HT's in the £300-500 area then Kona, GT, etc?

Just the usual suspects really......Specialised, Scott, Gary Fisher, Marin, Edinburger Cycles, etc....you know who they are :p

Im a fan of the Kona.
McDonald Cycles in Edinburgh (not Edinburger as some say) are the local dealer for them and Ive always had top service from them. I got a craking deal on another one 2 years ago as I bought it just after the next year model was out.
Glentress have Kona as their hire bikes and they usually sell them off afterwards for about 300 odd sheets. The bikes they had last time I was up were Calderra 08s that reatail for £800 and they were between £300 and £350 dependant on condition.

Anything full sus for that price will more than likely have te bearings shot, fork in need of stripping down etc. For quality and price you can't beat Giant IMO, might be able to pick-up a lightly-used XTC within budget

I've got my peepers on a full sus Carrera Banshee (x) - I know halfrods own brand is a bit hit and miss but never had any probs with my roadie. And allegedly it's the same frame as the konastinky. Missed out on one by £6! Within my budget too!
At least at this price I could upgrade the suspension reasonably cheaply.
The thoughts of the NMS Singletrack community appreciated?
Cheers

Are you really sure you need full-sus? A sorted hardtail can be just as good in the right hands, plus it looks like the Banshee comes with cable disc brakes - the weight of the suspension and frame needs hydraulics IMO.
The spec level really suffers to get full sus - witness the forks and brakes on that. And coil rear suspension is only used on £2k downhill monsters - on that its just the sign of cheap rear suspension.
I would look at either a Revolution HT or Boardman HT, both good value for money, with decent kit
