Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, James May and The Stig return for a new series of the top-rated BBC Two show.

In this first programme Jeremy asks why there aren't more three-wheeled cars in the world and investigates further with a closer look at the Eighties comedians' favourite, the Reliant Robin. Meanwhile, James gives Top Gear's favourite warhorse, the Toyota Hilux pick up, one final assignment as he attempts to drive one up an active volcano in Iceland; and The Stig rips up the track in the new Bentley Continental Supersports.

Richard gives the old Chevrolet Lacetti a dignified send-off before he and Clarkson host a star-studded tea party to welcome in a shiny new Reasonably Priced Car. Guests at the tea party include Bill Bailey, Amy Williams, Peter Jones, Nick Robinson, Al Murray, Louis Spence and Johnny Vaughan.

Martin I think they say that every season.... ;)

My only complaint like Mr C has said that if they drop the overly stupid stuff that just insults the viewers intelligence. I hate anything staged when it comes to pranks or jokes on the show.

Give us a Euro race, some car porn test drives, some motoring news along with a light dusting of humour and I’m happy oh and the odd splattering of an Aston here and there is always nice. Its always a good laugh just to see what the hamsters hair is like and his trying to be trendy outfits that always look so daft.

Great cars, just trying too hard to be funny! If you watch TG on Dave from say 03 or 04, same idea, just less scraping the barrell. I can happily sit and watch the classics, and still even record them if I check which ones they are. They are naturally funny, they don't need to try so hard. Don't get me wrong, still enjoyed it, just found for example with the Reliant, yes he rolled it...again...again...again...ok we get it, it rolls mate!

Aye love my TG as well but they need to give us a rest from the staged stupidity. I’m sure Hamster and JC could go about with out this overly lack of common sense. These guys have kids so I’m sure they can do things without destroying and burning them.

I think they have moved too far from a genuine car show to an Entertainment show, and who ever is pushing that way needs to wake up.

How much fun would it be to just keep rolling that Reliant though?

I would agree with him on the Bentley V Aston though - no debate at all. The Bentley is an awesome piece of engineering, I'd just rather have an Aston. Pimped Bentley that looks even more like a footballers car, or a proper sports car in the DBS. No contest.

Actually, I'd rather have a DB9 but that's not the point ;-)

Oh and loved the piece about him going up the volcano, those Toyotas are something else.

I actually laughed and laughed at the robin reliant bit, but found the video footage with the fire, and boxers etc annoying if I'm honest. Did enjoy it though. Top gear is like mini we love it so much we're blinded at the rubbish bits. (well I am anyway)

The boxer footage scenes looked awesome in HD though ;-) Stuff like that adds to the atmosphere in Top gear articles. The best example was the end of the era video (series 13, last episode - I had to look and discovered Top gear have banned videos on You Tube now!)

I agree it does look good in HD but I don't know it just seemed to much this time.

Just watched Top Gear (in HD) and thought is was excellent! Very funny but still some real car stuff in it too, i.e. the Bentley .

Thought the volcano trip was great, and nearly laughed my head off at James May's one-liner about the corrugated iron robbery at the allotments .

Last nights was excellent. Loved the Camaro vs Merc test. Me and Lenore both want Bumblebee, so despite the Merc winning on all fronts, it would be the Chevvy for us.

Worst thing about last night was having to wait for the World Cup match thing to finish before Top Gear started.

Unbelievable episode tonight, perhaps the best ever?

Great scenery in the snow, the bugatti is stunning to look at, love the raw carbon and orange paint, two a list stars who cane over very well, a d a stunning piece on senna.

I love watching senna, it's what I grew up with on f1. The in car footage of senna at Monaco is stunning, do a google for it ( it's not on you tube).

yep fantastic episode the night Senna was a god to F1 one man who knew how to race a real F1 car

Agree with what Euan says... Excellent program tonight.:thumbs up:

Considering this is a "Car Review" program, there was nothing there that "joe public" can put to good use when buying a new car, but that was an excellent hour of entertainment. Not really an F1 follower, but even I found the Senna segment very interesting.

Fab episode 2nite just loved that veron and 268mph I mean wow. I thought the tyre thing was funny at 248mph the £20,000 tyres would last about 38 miles(ish)

Wasn't it quicker than the F1 drivers? Obviously in a quicker car though.....

See I preferred last nights show to the motor home one of last week when things are set up. I bet Senna would have pulled in for team orders- aye right! love the ruthless streak of "well if he’s the only guy who can beat me but he has to finish this race then I’ll just take him out the race".

Andy I’m sure its moved on from a "Car Review" and now considered an “Entertainment show” I think its there way of saying we don’t want to be driving VW polo’s or any Fords.

Something seemed wrong there, possibly fixed, as he missed 2 gear changes quite badly, basically 2 seconds ahead of 3rd place

Think its made up from clips from a few laps with the time from the fastest.

If u watch though he totally cut that last corner might have had a bit to do with it.

according to the Beeb, Cruise's first lap in the car was 1'45" so perhaps all the driving he did for Days of Thunder paid off

They're all doing that now, you can see where it's been worn down on the inside of the corner. Must allow them to carry a load more speed through it!

His lap was very tidy. You can tell the folk that know how to drive, as they look relatively slow through the corners, but they carry the speed and momentum out onto the straights, and Cruise was another example. Have to say though, for being such huge stars, they didn't half seem relatively down to earth, same with Andy Garcia the other week, I absolutely loved his interview.

Agreed, you get the impression Garcia just feels very lucky to have been given the opportunities he has been and remains relatively normal.

Much better than some of the people they have in the car who are there to publicise a book - apparently it was supposed to be Jonathan Ross but he got bumped for Cruise and Diaz, that could be an interesting one as well.

It's funny, I was just thinking.... If Friday Night With Jonathan Ross was still on our screens, would Cruise and Diaz have even been on Top Gear? They only have a finite amount of time to publish their film, so would they have gone for JR's programme instead?
