Does anyone know if there is a Cooper S workshop or service manual on the internet anywhere?

A quick Google search brings up this from Motoring File. Left hand drive, but it's the correct model year.

IIRC Motoring file has a few resources like this. Not sure if any of them relate to right hand drive though.

Thanks for that but what I really meant was a workshop manual.

Whats the Haynes manual like - they tend to be a bit hit and miss these days

I have used this a couple of times - just diagrams & part numbers but gives an idea of what is going on - not sure if link has worked?
