We've found that our MINI's handle not too bad in the snow. You can help yourself by also fitting winter tyres which a few folk have done - Craig may be along soon to confirm that. We tried and failed to get winter tyres this winter (we were just too late to order them), but plan to fit them for next winter.
But even with standard run flat tyres we managed to negotiate this kind of snow (http://www.newminiscotland.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?19248-Post-your-snow-pics-here-winter-2009-10&p=231208&viewfull=1#post231208).

Any car is fine in winter with the right tyres (i.e. winter ones), I fit winters and never had any real problems despite living in an area that gets a lot of snow.
I had them on my MX5, lightweight and RWD, I used to go out baiting 4x4s :D

if you are thinking of buying winter tyres, please buy them in the summer, or as Andy said, you will not get them as they make them during summer for winter sales. :thumbs up:

get a clubbie and you can even turn them upside down for sledging where no other mini would dare to go ;)

Yeah I am a convert to winter tyres. I have them on my car at present and couldn't have picked a better winter to try them out. My car actually handled the snow better than my dads tiguan so I would reccomend winter tyres if you can afford them ;)

I didn't have snow tyres this year, and I still think the Mini (R56 S) is the best car i've ever had in the snow...solid as a rock!

I found the MINI to be too low for some of the really thick snow we had.
Our Aygo on super skinny tyres was much better than than mine on runflats!

I found the Cooper was not too bad on the snow but at times I was tempted to put the old mini back together as it's much much better on the white stuff
