Hi folks
I'm going to give my car a wash and polish. Any advice on whats best to use on a Black car for a good shine? Bear in mind it'll need to be purchased from Halfords until I get time to order stuff on the net.

I'd wait till you get the better stuff off the net. But with the black I'd make sure the car was pre-washed twice with a foam and rinsed twice before going near it with a wash mit.
Halfords I'd go with the Auto glym stuff although some say it does result in a bit of powder when you buff it.

Thanks for the advice, I might just give it a wash and dry for now then ;)
We're living on a building site atm, its a nightmare - theres a film of dust settled all over the car plus the tyres are covered in muck :(

Best one I've had and this was just after I picked the Mini up, got the car washed all dried and thinking plenty of time to get some of the polish and sealant on the car and a Van pulls up across the road and the Builder guy jumps out to finish the Driveway of a neighbours and starts cutting the Mon-block bricks to finish the end.
All I could see was this mass of white cloud of brick dust gently blow towards the car on my drive…..had to go out the next day and wash it again as my black roof was white.

Turtlewax do a Black Box detailing kit designed especially for black cars, not a lot places have it. AG have also sprung a new lease of life with their HD range - cleanser kit and also their HD wax and it scores well on the durability side of things. Personaly I use Dodo Juice on my Golf & Mini - Rain forest rub as they are steel grey and horizon blue, but they have lots of waxes to suit all kinds of cars.

Well, I had this exact debate last year and bought a load of stuff off the net, subsequently have had a foam lance which makes a big difference!
So, this is what I do on our black cars bodywork:
Foam with Megs Hyperwash
Rinse
Wash with Duragloss 901 for shampoo (using two buckets and a washmitt)
Dry, then apply Poor Boys Black Hole
Then a layer of Finish Kare #1000P Hi Temp Sealant
I did this on my wifes Polo before Christmas and it's still in superb condition.
I was tempted by the Dodo juice, but the combination of the glaze and sealant give you a great result and both go on really easily.

Thanks for the advice guys. I found a load of Autoglym stuff in Colins garage, so I decided to give it a try until I get time to order some stuff online. I found some of the Autoglym stuff quite hard to rub off, can't remember what it was called LOL!
Washshop, I see your from Broxburn I work through in Broxburn !
Here's a few pics for now :)

Typical!!!
The builder probably got great satisfaction in seeing your shiny MINI being covered in the dust. I'm surprised he didn't bring in one of those blower type machines aswell.
You must have been :ragin::ragin:

For black I'd always have the Foam lance, my black roof drives me nuts.
I had AG polish, Blackfire sealent, and pete 53 wax on last year and I liked the over look. Bought the Megs 16 paste wax to try this year. I have the Megs glaze that I think will now be used on top of the wax for that extra bling.
Jade car look well.

Yeah been told both, just its megs no 7 and I want to protect with my Blackfire Wet Diamond sealant and been told might have to wait 8-24 hours between the two but it should be fine. Then my Megs no 16 wax later.
The other way was a bit wasteful saying the megs 7 worked well over the wax but only lasted till it was either washed or it rained so here in Scotland that extra wet look would last a day.......dam our rain.
.
It really comes down to the fact the megs 7 was bought new and been used once and is 99% full and I'm trying to fit it in. but they say it gives a great wet look.

I polish then glaze with #7 then wax. The wax will seal in the #7 shine.
