View Full Version : Heart Of The Borders VI - Sunday 24th October 2010

9th March 2010, 08:30 PM
A sixth outing for this popular run.:thumbs up:
A wee bit later in the year this year, Sunday 24th October 2010.
For those who are new to NMS and this run, we start in Galashiels, take a run round some local roads, have lunch at a local eatery, then another jaunt in the afternoon, ending either back in Gala or sometimes Lauder. It's always a great run, taking in some terrific local roads.
Last years run thread is here. (http://www.newminiscotland.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?16550-Heart-Of-The-Borders-V-Sunday-30th-August-2009)
Update 17th October 2010: Run notes can now be downloaded, see link below. Lunch is organised at local Restaurant; Quins - same as last year. Meet point for this years run is TESCO's car park, instead of ASDA's.... Tesco's has an undercover car park so if it's teaming it down, we'll stay dry.
Meet at TESCO's car park at 10AM for 10.30AM departure! Tesco's Galashiels in Google Maps (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=TD1+3AT&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wl)

Really Andy, it's nothing personal!
Genuinely sorry to miss your run, but I pop down to Norwich every couple of years when my pal and his good wife have their Autumn break - still amazed they spend it putting up with me - they're a grand pair (which is quite expensive actually). Used to go down for the Duxford Autumn Airshow, but my mate's Dad passed away a couple of years ago, the three of us always had a great time and it still doesn't feel right somehow to go without the old boy, so we're just going to enjoy the Delights of Norfolk... and other pubs. Anyway, I'll need to think up another excuse for next year..... OOOOOOPS.......!

Andy, My Norwich week trip's been moved to Saturday 16th (it was supposed to be Sat 23rd) and I'm coming back up on Friday 22nd to see Joe Satriani at the Clyde Auditorium, so I should be OK for the Sunday!
Only complete b@***rd is that I'm now going to miss that other Guitar God, Joe Bonamassa, at the Glasgow Concert Hall on 18th.... Talk about swings and roundabouts eh?

ELFMAN on reduced power.
I'll be taking it easier on this run - left elbow/arm a bit wonky (recurrence of inflamation/infection I had a few weeks ago after clouting and scraping elbow while trying to clear crap out of the garden shed), so gear-changing could be a bit less fun than usual. I ended up at a medical centre in Norwich during my holiday last week, my arm had a relapse and looked like Popeye's* and I felt most peculiar). So now back on nasty pills which don't help the old system, even though they do, if you see what I mean... The swelling's gone down a bit, but it's still painful... Oooh Matron! Fnaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrr! etc.
Hopefully I'll feel more up for it once the old adrenalin kicks in!
*Popeye's ARM that is.

BIG thanks to all the Pooles for a great day out, I'm just sorry I wasn't up to my usual state of babbling idiocy, but I wasn't feeling at all 'on the ball' today - it was an effort to do what usually comes naturally, i.e. skelping a MINI down a country road. Still, thanks to good company, a great route and a nice lunch I managed to salvage what would have been a day in the house feeling even sorrier for myself. AND I managed to get fully 'airborne' following Greig at ***MPH... The JCW suspension certainly lands well!
Pity Craig and Jude had to leave early - never mind Craig, just think of those two pints you've earned on Tuesday night!
Apologies to Neil for missing his Humourous Improvised Signage, but this just shows how off-colour and oblivious I was - I had to keep my eyes glued to the road!
Joined Stoney at the jet wash - found out he has difficulty telling the difference between a GP and an ELFMAN... cleanest I've been all week.
All I have to do now is get some black touch-up paint for my latest 'battle-scar'. The leading edge of my roof must have the gravitational pull of a small planet the way it seems to attract stones... well that's what happens when you use your car - better than getting it bumped in a car park.
Great photos too folks.
Hope everybody got home safe and sound, see you soon when hopefully I'll be back to 'Abnormal'.

Pretty sure I saw a bead of sweat on your forehead at one point too. It was while we were parked up on the hill between Stow and Lauder. The rest of us were bitching about how cold it was and had our winter jackets on, arms wrapped round ourself just trying to keep the blood flowing, you were stood there in your polo shirt and shorts not even shivering.:frown:

Andy, I sent some pics of my car to Emma at LOHEN and included (for her interest and just to show her NMS were all out playing in the cold) one of the 'Line Up' photos you took. Your picture's now appeared alongside the 'G3 ELF' ones in the LOHEN 'Customers Gallery' - just thought I'd let you know!
