Did this last time round. It was a great run with a nice long wheel splash en-route.
And we're more than a tad P!SSED off because we specifically arranged our June Orlando holiday to be AFTER the last Monday in May so we could go on this years Thistle run - we missed last years because of MINI United. We fly out on 2nd June so we're gonna miss this years run too. Argghhhhh!!!!:ragin:

Yeah its a good day out.
However its always the last Sunday in May so I organised to go to Ireland the first weekend in June.
Now they have moved the date so I wont be able to get my classic out to this. Boo Hoo

The reason for the date change is due to IMM Germany and The Jim Clarke Rally is the same weekend and shares the same route, road closures all over the place.
We hope this will not deter from MINI numbers

I'm sure you'll still get plenty of MINI's:thumbs up:. Ian has obviously made the same mistake we have made in assuming it would be on the same weekend as it's always been on. Something my former boss said to me 20 years ago which has stuck with me all this time..... "assumptions are the mother of all ****ups!" How true.:frown:

"assumptions are the mother of all ****ups!"
Very true Andy.
I have all the Jim Clarke routes on my pc, it would have been a nightmare to attempt it on the same weekend.
Also the week earlier was IMM 2010, everyone Mini would be in Germany.
Sorry you both cannot make it.

Is it just me or is there a distinct lack of new MINI's at this event now ?

I thought that. First thistle run I've managed to attend since 2005, and in 2005 there were nearer 100 minis in the run.
So I assumed there would be loads of new MINIS but I'd say there were less than in 2005.
Fantastic to see so many classics despite them being out of production for 10 years now.
There was no anti new Mini stuff going on that I was aware of so don't know why less new minis.

No no, I was'nt thinking for one minute that the reason for the downturn was via the anti BMW chaps. It;s just that past runs had loads more MINI's in attendance. I was pondering going, but my weekends off are sometimes spent doing other things than MINI

To be honest I think numbers were just down in general. Last one I was on was 2008 and Im sure the total was something like 350 cars.
baptie
7th June 2010, 09:34 PM
2008 was 219 on the day
2010 was 193, 17 MINI's in attendance and the lead car was a White MINI Clubman, pictured above.
18 never turned up due to various issues.
you mind if I pockle your pic of the ford Duncan?
As a PS owner I know Geoff (the owner of the PS in the ford) I think he would be well chuffed to see pic.
He has recently done Italian Job for the third time, 2010 sponsored by MiniSport

Sorry I didn't meet any MINI drivers as I was on ford duty:thumbs up: (we had to tow 8
classic out the water:smilewinkgrin:) no MINIs got stuck:smilewinkgrin:, on the up side I
have pics of nearly all the cars going through the water:yes nod: (exept when I was pushing some
up the hill:yes nod:). Will upload them to the clans flickr page in the near future.
Was there 3 GPs there? I had mine seen James car but thought I saw another one:thumbs up:

To be honest I think numbers were just down in general.
Think it being held later this year (other shows clashed with it) and it
not being a holiday weekend didn't help the numbers. I am sure the numbers
have been on the increase since it start waaaaaaaaaaaay back in 1999:thumbs up:.
NMS should have it down as one of there main runs:yes nod: as it is great to
see MINI/mini's mixing together on a runs and shows.
