View Full Version : May Mini Adventure Sun 2nd May

ianking
22nd January 2010, 01:06 PM
Following on from the 'June Jolly' and the 'July Jolly' I have decided to run the 'May Mini Adventure'

It will be fairly similar to the previous 2 runs except I will need to find a new lunch stop due to the owners of the Kailzie restaurant being retired.

Previous run threads here.

Run Notes:- http://www.newminiscotland.co.uk/forums/images/smilies//link.gif (http://www.newminiscotland.co.uk/run_notes/2010/mini_run_may.pdf)

Start and finish points will be in Penicuik, EH26 with a departure of 10.30am. I dont do huge long runs. Normally max of 90 miles with a nice lunch stop half way.

William has kindly offered to be back car for me as he is local to the area, (I need to buy him a pint though, there is aways a catch)

Might even be able to get some goodie bags again from my friendly local dealer, hey last time they even gave me a whole car for the day.

So if you fancy it put your name down.

1. Ian + Sarah
2. William + Megan
3. Rob
4. Craig and Jude
5. Mini Ecosse x2
6. Brian and Christina
7. L13ARG + 1
8. Andy + Lenore
9. Elfman
10. David + Fiona
11. Pot007 (Stewart + Julie)

Fingers crossed we can make it, will let you know if we can't nearer the time.....anyone travelling across from Glasgow, fancy meeting up at Sterling services about 9:00.....?

No worries Matt. Thats you added.

Perhaps I should take us all on really dirty roads then past my house at the end of the run wherre I can conveniently offer a foam wash for say £5 per car.

Hi

Sorry we may have to pull out - power steering pump failure and no doubt a hefty bill to fix so a tank of petrol for a jolly at this time is not ideal.....

Matthew

Craig
26th April 2010, 11:38 AM
What's the plan for lunch Ian ?

Matt - give mini customer services a bell, as it was my understanding that due to all the bad publicity around failing pumps that they would give you a new pump foc, you just had to pay the labour ;). Worth a try....

ianking
26th April 2010, 11:39 AM
OK Matt no probs.

For luch I was just going to suggest that everyone does their own thing in Peebles due to the restaurant that I used to use being closed now due to the owner retiring.

Or we could go for lunch after the run instead of having the stop at Peebles as the hotel round the corner from me had said they would do me a 2 courser for £10 if we all came in.

Went and drove the route last night.
All is good appart from a couple wee bits where the winter has taken its toll on the road surface and some heavy pot holes have appeared. I know where this section is and it lasts for only about 100m on a single track section so we will crawl through it at 10mph just to be safe.

That sounds a wee bit callous - have you had anyone in hospital recently? MINI Runs don't come into it. Kind of hard to go swanning off round the countryside when that's going on... Must be that caring American Health Care attitude.

Nice Pics Stoney! Or is it GPMan now? Crafty sod.

Thanks again to Ian and Sarah and 'The Special One' (although it's a Cooper) and Megan for leading and sweeping up the run. Great to get the car out doing what it's supposed to do and to remind myself how much better it gets off the line with the Traction Control OFF - aaahhh the smell of burning Dunlops. if only I had my brain switched on and the TC switched off at the M6 Tolls back in April...

Nice lunch too - thanks for the extra chips Christina. Pity I had to keep backing off during the faster sections of the run to let Brian and you catch up... (yeah, right). The dust on the back roads looked pretty cool and it didn't rain till me and Stoney were homeward bound on the M8. Think everybody missed the pot holes on those couple of sections too, but we were well warned by Ian so no probs there. The rest of the roads were excellent and let the cars have a good blast (apart from getting held up by a tedious Renault which obviously didn't have a rear-view mirror...).

Happy Birthday Jude, and if Sioban's reading this - hope the Knee's on the mend and on the bend, and I hope yon Malcolm's running around doing everything for you in the meantime!

I think I might be missing the next run due to being on holiday, but it was nice to see everybody again today. See Y'aaal soon, Drive Safe y'hear!

Glad you all enjoyed it.
We both had a great day out.

Thanks to William for keeping the rear of the group together.

I really like the rally stage going up the super steep hill, Sarah was cursing a wee bit though incase we went over the edge.

On the single track near the end of the run when the dust kicked up behind me I thought 'oh no' Im going to have made a mess on Andys car but when I looked in my rear view and saw the red mini appearing from the dust screem coming round the corner at pace it looked sooo goood. I wish my rear view could take pics. It looked like a mini bursting out of a fire.

Cracking run Ian, many thanks for organising.

It was good to give the Red MINI a good blast and blow the cobwebs off the engine and brakes. Poor wee thing hasn't had a good blast for months.

That really is a cracking route with some amazing scenery and terrific driving roads. Be nice to do it in a convertible one day. Even the pot-hole ridden road towards the end failed to take the shine off a great day.

Good to meet Pot007 too, nice clubbie.:thumbs up:

Looks like you guys had a great run and the best of the weather. Real sorry we couldn't be there.
And what about the new car Rob!!! It looks a cracker, a real real classic that deserves a proper enthusiastic owner. Enjoy many safe miles.

thanx i will be looking after this one as said just like you have to look after mom's :thumbs up:

Looks like you guys had a good run.
I would have been there but went out on my bike.
I thought I might have seen you guys out and about as I see you were on the Moffat road and looks as though you went over by the dam.

Bonnet stripes fitted on Friday full clean all day Saturday full tank of fuel sunday morning to come on run then the noise got alot louder . Garage NOW sourcing me a gearbox. Great run Ian, thanks again. Sorry I had to bail out, but supposedly buying a house is more important than the mini runs???

A huge thanks to Williams mum too, the 'brown bag' trick worked a treat ......

Stoney, love the GP....not that I could see much of it (clubvan needs a bit more bhp!).

Just going to sign up for the picnic run now....
