Just found these two pics on the Geneva Motor show official site. Not sure if they've been seen before on NMS, and they say "Copyright 2010". Worth noting they call it the "Countryman", rather than the Crossover.

To me, the first pic looks great. The second one, I get the feeling the car doesn't know what it is. Its certainly not a 4x4 and its not a clubman either. It reminds me of the Scenic 4x4...horrid. After my posts about the crossover on the other thread, its starting to look better as we speak lol!

Not sure what to make of it. Back looks a bit bleak and lacking in something. I think it might have looked better with clubbie doors to give it a bit of oomph! Other than the slope of the roofline being a bit like the clubbie it doesn't seem to have an awful lot in common with its wee bros and sis'. Like everything else always best to see it in the flesh before making a decision about liking it or not. Think they should take off the mini badge tho !

Mixed feeling about this. In saying that I thought the clubman was horrible when it first came out and it grew on me over time so who knows. Did notice how large the mini badge was at the back.

Yup and rumored to have 5 seats. Countryman was always expected to be the official name as BMW lodged the copyright for the name.

I really don't think that a Mini can be a 4x4 - it's not big and chunky enough and certainly doesn't have the necessary ground clearance. As far as I can tell, it doesn't have any more space inside than a Clubman so I'm struggling to see the need for this model, other than for getting around a bit easier in the snow or if you live on a farm!

Having said that, it does look nice in the pure white colour in the second photo, as does the bridge........

BMW have a habit of making cars for no purpose, take the X3 and X6 and you could even argue the X5, none of them seem to serve any true purpose. None can be classed as proper off roaders.

Aye can add another to your list, the X1...bogart, absolutely bogart. Its looks like an X5 that has been dropped from a high height and been squished on impact!

Perhaps people don't actually want big heavy thirsty off-roaders, they want something that looks like one but drives like a real car. I'd rather these people bought this new breed rather than the pukka ones.

If the cars sell then BMW have justified the design, the X5 is very popular. (I not defending the X6 that's just crazy)

Have to disagree the X1 is a lovely looking car and good in the snow. Also not everyone wants a big X5 an X1 is possibly more suited to some people. On the other hand the X3 is stupid

The new shape X5 is stunning, particularly if its M Sport trim, my god I want one. (old shape has never taken my fancy and now looks really dated)
However, the X6 is horrid looking, the X1 looks even worse and the X3 just doesnt quite cut it.
All my personal opinion of course.

interior pictures now up on motoringfile

http://www.motoringfile.com/2010/01/19/mini-countryman-photos-leaked/

So far I like it the interior looks good I dare say this is what the next generation hatch 2011 model interior will look like.

The traditionalists won't like it and I respect that but I'm all for change and new models variants.

don't think it has ever been the intention to make this a 4x4 in the going off road variety.

Would be nice to see the 2.0d engine in this model.

The interior is nice, very nice in fact, particularily like the seats but the exterior isn't. The front isn't too bad but the side and rear view doesn't do it for me. At this moment in time I wouldn't consider buying it. In the long term I suppose it would depend on how much of its ugly features are integrated into facelift versions of the hatch and clubbie. I think if that is the face of mini to come that I'd be looking around the competition for something more aesthetically pleasing for the same money. But might be like the clubbie the more you see of it the more it grows on you.

The white is very nice. Very popular just now though so in the long term could be a favoured colour amongst young boullie bashers.

Scottie
20th January 2010, 08:42 PM
I like the Grey (Parklane) colour better than the white but I would have the white non the less.

The thing is though I'm not sure I would own this straight away look how long it has taken to iron out the faults in the R56 as long as it's taken for the facelift to come out which I guess is the norm really.

I must say that looking at the photos again I really like this :yes nod:. The interior is very nice and I like the idea of having 4 passenger doors for a change (rather than the two and a half I have on my Clubbie ). I wasn't sure about it being a "4x4" but I believe only the Cooper D and Cooper S will have the four-wheel drive system so that would help traction enormously from a performance point of view rather than for mud-plugging!

Plus, I like my car to be different from the mainstream and this would certainly fit the bill :thumbs up:.

well speaking of the X1, it is actually only 12cm higher than the actual 1 series, and obviously LCI (Life cycle impulse / Facelift) looks aswell.

If its anything like the X1, then you can have a choice of S-Drive or X-Drive versions, so i possibly assume that it can be the same for this aswell.

MINI UK have confirmed pricing for the forthcoming MINI Countryman, due to go on sale in September this year. Prices start from £16,000 for the MINI One Countryman, rising to just over £22,000 for a MINI Cooper S Countryman All4.

On announcing the pricing for the fourth member of the new MINI family, Jochen Goller, Director of MINI UK had this to say:
The extra space and ALL4 MINI break new ground in the brand’s 51 year heritage. With Countryman prices starting at £16,000 and a very high standard specification, we are introducing more MINI piquancy into the crossover market this year.
The MINI Countryman will initially be available in five trim levels; MINI One Countryman, MINI One D Countryman, MINI Cooper Countryman, MINI Cooper D Countryman and MINI Cooper S Countryman. Three models will offer the All4, four wheel drive option. The MINI Cooper D Countryman and MINI Cooper S Countryman will offer this from launch in September, with the MINI Cooper Countryman All4 slated for a 2012 launch. There have also been strong indications a John Cooper Works version of the MINI Countryman will make an appearance in the not too distant future, if there’s suggestion of strong demand for such a vehicle.

The basic prices for the MINI Countryman range are as follows:

MINI Countryman One: OTR Price: £16,000
MINI Countryman One D: OTR Price: £17,000
MINI Countryman Cooper: OTR Price: £17,510
MINI Countryman Cooper D: OTR Price: £18,810
MINI Countryman Cooper S: OTR Price: £20,810
The ALL4 models costs an additional £1,065 for the Cooper D or £1,220 for the Cooper S. No exact figures for MPG or emissions effect have been given for the All4 variants. For full specifications of the MINI Countryman range, see our previous MINI Countryman article.

The petrol engines are the updated 1.6 litre power plants already announced for the MINI, Convertible and Clubman models due to hit the roads next month, while the diesel units are shared with the rest of the MINI range. The petrol engines all feature Variable Valve Timing (VVT) similar to the BMW Valvetronic system that produces more torque low down and aids overall efficiency. The Cooper S model also features a twin-scroll turbocharger and direct fuel injection that gives blistering performance with modest fuel economy and low CO² emissions. All engines meet EU5 emissions standards.

The MINI Countryman range offers standard equipment including:

Roof rails that facilitate various attachments like roof boxes or roof racks
Thatcham Category 1 alarm system
Air conditioning
Heated door mirrors and washer jets
Rear park distance control
MINI Central Rail system
Multi-function rear seats – the five seat fitment being standard in the UK, although the four seat option will be at no cost
Dynamic Stability Control
Electric power steering with Servotronic speed-related assistance
Six airbags
ISOFIX child safety seat mountings
Tyre puncture warning system
Standard Central Bass Hi Fi system with six speakers
DAB digital radio with Radio Boost
Bluetooth telephone preparation
USB connection
Passenger Airbag deactivation
Preparation for a bicycle rack
