A wee snow report from the sunny Borders....

Had a gargantuan fall of snow last night in the Borders. It started about 8pm and didn't really let up properly for about 12 hours. By then about 18 inches had fallen, closing a good few roads down here and generally causing transportation chaos.

For only the second time in 16 years we have had to close the cinema because we are simply beaten by the snow. We would probably have opened for the few we would have got in tonight, but we've no projectionist as they all live between 10 and 25 miles away and it simply not safe for them to travel to get in to work. So Lenore and I walked in to the cinema from our house 2 miles away to cancel staff, and make the appropriate arrangements to shut for the day. Picked up a couple of things from tesco's and walked home in a blizzard again. Only to find our driveway covered in another 3" of snow - I'd just cleared it that morning. There's no way we'd have gout out our street to drive in to town as the MINI would just have acted like a snow plough and dug in after a few yards.

By the time we got home a tractor had been up the street and done a great job of clearing the road, but we found a 1m tall snow bank in front of the drive. So that's now clear and we're ready to drive tomorrow if required.

Some pics to feast your eyes on....

EDIT: All pics taken with my iPhone so they are a bit rubbish.

Our walk in to work. Lenore wouldn't let me take pics of her trousers tucked into her pink socks and pink boots. SEXY!

What kinda car was it designed to take if it cannot take a mini? that's daft. It's like car park spaces now who on earth thinks you can actually use spaces that size.

The Dogfather

Epic fall Andy! We had a lot of snow last night from same bank of cloud but it really only skirted us so we only got about 5 inches. Being so close to the coast we've been catching all the showers, as a result the snow is between 20-24 inches deep in sheltered areas, most night there's been 3 - 7 inches of snow.

So far I've managed to get into work every morning (37 mile drive) thanks to the winter tyres, but the problem is now the slow moving traffic and the digging out so I'm having a work from home day tomorrow.

Alan, aye, had to get that weight off the ragtop. Was worried it was gonna collapse under the weight. Although to be honest the snow is so light and fluffy there probably wouldn't have been much weight in it anyway. However, better off than on.

It feels like I've been shovelling snow for two days straight.:frown: That pic of lenore stood next to one heap doesn't do the amount of snow we have justice... It's as deep as it is high and as wide as it is long, and there's another 2 piles on the drive.:frown:

Great photos Andy - you really have had a lot of snow... :thumbs up:

I have not had that much here but as our street doesn't see a gritter or a plough of any sort we now have a skating rink for a street... :yes nod: Went out last night and helped a neighbour chip the ice off the drive way that was 3 inches thick! :argh: It only took about 2 hours for 3 of us...:thud::thud: including having a couple of :beer: to numb the pain.. :thumbs up: His wife is about 3 weeks from their 3rd baby and he is really scared she would fall :frown:

Wow so the snow has reached there too. Is it unusual for it to snow there?Ususally get 1 or 2 loads of snow every winter and everything does grind to a halt.
No gritters or anything to get clear the roads, the local drivers don't adapt to the conditions, good entertainment from the window.
