Well guys, it will have been 2 years since we were last at the factory. A few things are bound to have changed and they may even be building some new models when we are there. :thumbs up:

More firm details later, however it will most prob be around the same idea as the Last Trip (http://www.newminiscotland.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=13292&highlight=mothership)

This is a MEGA road trip, including a SUPERB breakfast at Huntleys of Salmesbury (http://www.huntleys.co.uk/) and normally a BIG convoy of MINI's down the M6. The rest of the weekend is up to you, some travel back up the road on the Sat, others make it the start of a Holiday and others have a night elsewhere on the way home.. It's all possible :yes nod:

The hotel we use for the Friday night is Oxford Premier Inn (http://www.premierinn.com/pti/hotelInformation.do?hotelId=23918)

I may have to put a cap of 30 on this, however we have had the option before of a second tour on the Sat Morn, so we shall see how many want to go. :D

Update 30th March....

Times are now confirmed...

Leaving Bothwell Services @ 07:30hrs Details HERE (http://www.motorwayservices.info/area.php?area=101)

Pit Stop @ Southwaite Services @ 09:00hrs

Lunch at Huntleys of Salmesbury @ 11:00hrs

Pit Stop at Norton Canes Services (M6 Toll) @ 13:30hrs * Remember £5 for the toll*

Arrive Oxford @ 16:00hrs approx.

For those with 2 way radios (PMR 446 kind) we will be using channel 4/17 for the run. It's good fun for a bit of banter and also helps to keep us all together and we all know what is going on..

This falls on my last weekend at home, and being that I'm missing the highland tour then I would love to go on this. Always fancied a look around the factory. Craig will the accomodation be the same as 2 years ago (ie Premier Travel Inn at Oxford Business Park at the Cowley Junction)

Obviously I'll let you know if there are any changes in my shift plan.

ps. Kim will be joining me too. (that's if we are not divorced. (ie.Any more mods to car= divorce))

Just today I said to Kim I fancied getting the alloys powder coated a different colour, she said " sounds like a good idea, do think you'll have any money left to pay for the divorce".

As you can see folks, quite a few people are booking their Hotel room for the Fri night. I would STRONGLY suggest booking your room, even if there is a wee doubt that you won't make it. This is because as we get closer to the date, the rooms will sell out (I remember one year there were no rooms about 5 weeks before the trip.. :frown:)

Bear in mind that you can cancel your room even on the day of travel, so nothing to pay up front and if you cancel before the time on the day. :thumbs up:

Hi
A wee update for you.
Sarah cant make it this year so my mate Paul (he has been on a number of mini runs so you guys will probably know him) is going to chum me instead.

We were thinking of heading East on Sat and going to Duxford to the big air museum then drive up either Sat night or Sun daytime.
If not will just drive up on Sat with a visit to Gaydon motor museum.

Craig
9th January 2010, 06:15 PM
No probs Ian.

Craig, is there any space on the Tour / run for our Claire and Francis to come up to Oxford from London? Claire has promised that they will clean the car. It has to be the most neglected Mini I know. Only gets washed if the "gardener" does it. lol.
They really just want to join in the banter, as they haven't been on a run since they were at St. Andrews.
If it's OK I'll book the hotel.

absolutely fine with me Malcolm. As I have said before, we normally get call-offs and Oxford normally let us go over the 30 max without any problems.. :thumbs up:

Hi
We were thinking of heading East on Sat and going to Duxford to the big air museum then drive up either Sat night or Sun daytime.
If not will just drive up on Sat with a visit to Gaydon motor museum.

IWM Duxford is an amazing place, been there 5 or 6 times over the years since the early 90's (sis stays 20 miles or so away). If you are going Ian you'll need to set aside 3-4 hours minimum to take the whole place in.

Craig

Ok guys & gals, had an update from Oxford. They still won't let me book the tour, I have to wait til the 1st Feb.

The nice lady at Oxford did come out with a few gems tho... :argh:

1 - The tour maximum numbers have been changed to 25 (not 30, or 36 as it was one year...)

2 - They are now charging £12 per person rather than the £5 we paid the last time and not all of that is going to charity as was the case with the previous charge. This may not be a biggy, but it did bug me the percentage rise...!

3 - They CANNOT do a fri evening tour. I tried to explain that this has been a long standing arrangement and since 2004 we have been doing a tour on this day. I was told the only time they do evening tours is Mon-Thurs, Fri and Sat are only 9am and 1pm. :argh::argh:

So the options as I see it are...

We still travel down on the Fri, take it easy on the way down as we are in no rush and maybe stop at Gaydon for a look, have a nice night in the hotel and do the tour(s) on the Sat. Now this gives us an issue, purely down to numbers. I have 38 people on the list, but I am assuming most want to do the tour, however if we have say 13 who do not want to do the tour, then ace, we can all do the 9am tour on the Sat :thumbs up: However if most/all want to do the tour, then I would split it fairly evenly at 20/18, but that means that those on the 1pm tour would not be ready to leave Oxford til about 3:30ish and if you are driving back home, then it's gonna be a late one...

Also, some people may have already made plans on the basis of a fri night tour and NEED to get the early tour... I have to be honest guys, this is giving me a major ****in headache that I didn't want. I could go on a rant about MINI, but I wont.. :ragin::lol:

I can't even get the help of the lovely Ulrike on this one as she has now been posted to Munich. :thud:

So, help me here, what do you suggest (bearing in mind, if I am booking tours I need to do it on the 1st to make sure we get our dates - as I have been asking about them since Nov last year !!!) :yes nod:

Myself and my mate defo still want to go. Early tour Sat would be better for me. A wee tour round Gaydon on the way down then hit the bar at the hotel sounds like a great idea for me.

Or just leave right early on Fri and get there for the 1pm tour. Then hit the bar after then go to Gaydon on Sat on the way up the road.

thanks for the feedback guys. I did think about the 1pm tour on the friday, but you have to be there for 12:30 and that would mean leaving at stupid o'clock. A 7am leave (as we normally do) gets us down for about 4, so it's around 8 hours drive. That means leaving about 3am. :thud:

The Sat tours are prob what we are going to have to go with, but I need to know if some would be happy to do the lunchtime tour as they can't fit us all in on the 9am tour.. I for one want to get in and get the tour done and then get back on the road :yes nod:

Here is what I will say. Part of the trip for me is the convoy down. If you have to be there for a certain time, as ben says something will happen on the road and that just causes stress or worse having to speed to get there in time. I much prefer a more relaxing drive :D

You'd think MINI were doing us a favour... £12.00 and as Craig said, not all for charity etc. Are they forgetting it's US who keep the ****in' place working? Like you Craig, I'm not a happy camper either - the main bugbear being that we've all made arrangements long before, and now they've moved the goalposts. Talk about biting the hand that feeds them? Must admit, my first thoughts were 'S*d it', but I'd miss the convoy and the banter with all of you guys. Having missed MINI 50 last year because of our family bereavement, I don't want to miss this one too. But cancelling the usual Friday Tour when they knew we were coming AND reducing the numbers when we've arranged things is just taking the p*ss.

My thoughts exactly Ewan... I did get an email back from Ulrike with a "tactic" to use (If needs be). She did say that if she was still at Oxford, she would have sorted it, but there are new bosses in there and she can't make it happen. Full marks to her tho for her honesty.

Good point Rob. Yes, let's go for the positive - despite the mucking about, we'll still have the convoy and the usual great evening of banter and laughs - we'll just have to tell them to turn the volume down for the tour for those who 'enjoyed' the Bar too much. Right folks, I have had a look at the route for the way down and I have come up with a plan. I think we will stick with the normal plan, this is for 2 reasons...

1 - we had looked at stopping at Gaydon (the Heritage Motor Museum) however they want £12 entry for every adult and I was only going to use this as a 1 hour stopover so I think this is a tad expensive for what for many will already be quite costly.... If some of you want to stop at this (as it is about 10 mins off the motorway) by all means do so and we will see you at the Hotel :thumbs up: I wouldn't want to stop anyone from seeing this if they really want to. :yes nod:

2 - the route we have used has always worked and we can leave later at say 09:00hrs rather than 07:30hrs. ;)

The only downside with leaving later is that we cannot have a Huntley's breakfast :frown: but their other food is just as good :thumbs up:

Also just for info I have checked and the toll road is now £5 per car. Some may see that as expensive, however I think it represents great value as it is always quiet and the "le mans" start out of the tolls is always a hoot!

i would stick to the 7 30am start time

Easy for you to say Mr Stoney!! :moonie: You dont live near Aberdeen meaning if your wanting to start off from Bothwell at 7.30 all the Aberden folk would have to leave Aberdeen about 5am :frown: Jeezo!! (Did it once for Mini United but it wasn't easy!!! lol) :moonie:

I really enjoy the 'LeMans' start away from the tolls. Its worth every bit of £5.

Im not fussy for the big breakfast to be honest, Shoot me if you want but its no different to me anyway from any other cooked breakfast I have had.

I would really like to go to Gaydon again though but definately need more than 1 hour there.

That is true but it's going to take 6h with no stop so looking at 7 h down so if we leave at 9 that's us hitin Oxford at about 4-30/5 ish right at rush hour on a fri that dose not sound like much fun to me as I know what the roads get like down there there is allways that to think about as well !!!!!

Ok guys and gals, only just over 2 weeks to go....

I have been trying for weeks to get Oxford to allow the extra 4 people to get on the morning tour, but they say that because of health and safety, they cannot change the numbers from 25. :frown: That means that AeroJonny and Friend plus Burple & Fi will not get on the morning tour unless someone pulls out.. :argh: Sorry folks, but I have really tried everything to get you on the morning tour, including emailing Ulrike in Germany, but she can't exert any pressure on them.. This means that you either book yourself on the 1pm tour, or miss out. I am again sorry this is the case, but it's all outwith my control..

I do hope you understand....

yeah I have..... brace yourself as it won't be popular for the northern members... :frown:

We will be leaving Bothwell Services at 07:30hrs as per the last few tour runs. This is mostly due to the multitude of roadworks on the motorway down (several members have given me updates recently after travelling south and it is a nightmare - full of lower speeds and cameras...) The added bonus is a huntleys breakfast ;) Mmmmmmmmm and we should be down in Oxford before 5pm even with the roadworks so giving plenty time for people to do whatever they want with the evening. :thumbs up:

6 would suffice although better arriving at Bothwell early so theres time for a toilet stop etc etc. Don't want to arrive there at 07.25 & then hoon down the road 5 mins later if you get me.

Just bearing in mind the 10+ mile 40mph roadworks at cumbernauld

Half 5ish? :(

Hi Guys ;)

Just thinking, for the MINI United convoy down to Silverstone, we all had to meet at Bothwell at 7.30am
Me + Steven met Nick (Birdog) at stracathro services at 5.30am and we made it in plenty of time to Bothwell although that was without those roadworks at Cumbernauld
what about if you Aberdeen guys met me n steven around 5am at Stracathro, that should give us plenty of time to get down, hardly any traffic on the road at that time - what do u think?

Oh by the way, just a random query but dont suppose Christine is making those awesome fairy cakes again for the trip down is she??! :thumbs up::cool::thumbs up::smilewinkgrin: (Dont ask, dont get) Please Mrs Stoney!!
