Lenore and I went down to Blackpool Illuminations this weekend. Haven't seen them for 17 or 18 years - they haven't changed. :Whistle:

Journey down the M6 was full of roadworks, so decided route home would be the "tourist route." So we took the A6 up to Kendal area, then headed over to Bowness-On-Windermere and took a 1 hour break and a look around. Then headed up the A592 Kirkstone Pass, Windermere to Penrith. (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=A5074%2FSt+Martin's+Pl&daddr=54.644837,-2.783661&hl=en&geocode=FUyHPQMdYnDT_w%3B&mra=mi&mrsp=1,0&sz=12&sll=54.603096,-2.821083&sspn=0.132047,0.363579&ie=UTF8&ll=54.476222,-2.837219&spn=0.132458,0.363579&z=12)

The weather was truly dreadful with high winds and very heavy rain causing flooding and branches coming down all over the place, but we loved the road. It would be a fantastic road to drive on a nicer summery day. The Kingstone pass takes you up to the top of the hills then dramatically drops you back down towards Ullswater at a 13% drop.

Great road. If in the area, I'd highly recommend it.:thumbs up:

Its Kirkstone Pass ;)

Great road but its always full of muppets driving at 20mph, did you follow the lake road round to Pooley Bridge and Penrith?

Wot u talking about?:Whistle::D

We didn't follow the Pooley bridge road. Probably should have, for posterity if anything, as that was my nickname when I was a kid at school.:rolleyes:

That’s the exact road I was planning on doing on my way home from North Yorkshire. Left in fantastic Sun and done the roads through the Dales and got over the Buttertubs still dry and bright to come down on the road over to Kendal and it all went black and heavy rain so when I see the sign for the M6 North just took it. Shame but next time I’m down I’ll miss the Tubbs and head over to do it.

Still got that Road Paul said just north of the A66.;)

It was on that Richard Wilson programme “ The Best British Drives”

That road just north of A66 is the best road in the country...
