Just got this story emailed to me tonight about the Mini Crossover going into production and should be in showrooms by the end of next year, according to this web site:-

Mini Crossover article (http://www.motoring.co.uk/car-news/the-bmw-mini-4x4x4x4-_15097)

There are several photos and a video to whet your appetite (of those who need the extra ground clearance )

I've been told they will be available from October of next year.

I would like to see a production model so that I can make my mind up if I want one if not then it will be a JCW Clubman.

Hmmm seems to talk more about the concept car rather than the actual production version. From the looks of the recent spy shots the crossman will have conventional doors and a hatchback boot.

After seeing the X1 at Frankfurt it will be a dinky size, not too big or small so looking forward to seeing the mini body on it :thumbs up:

I've just got to wait wish they would hurry up and show the car for real. However that is the best spy video I've seen to date.

I know there if not a lot of love for a 4x4 mini and I respect that but for me who has been a 4x4 fan for years and who has enjoyed the mini this will be the complete package for me.:D

Exactly our thoughts too Fi.

But I think we'll be seriously torn between the Crossman and the Roadster.

Easy answer = one of each.:thumbs up:

I think it is pretty ugly!

I also think there are a few elements in there that will not make it to production. The side and rear door opening designs look really epxensive.

On the video footage they don't exist. Also looks like that daft center globe thing doesn't exist either. In the launch video footage it looked just plain daft. Dropping a little ball into the thing to start the car. I can see the conversation now...

Me (shouting to Lenore who's upstairs): "I was going to take the MINI to the shops, but I've lost my balls!"

Not a fan I have to say but I guess it would be great for those needing four doors and a bit more room and fantastic for the country bumpkins for when it snows. I did not really like the Clubman when I first seen it and it simply has grown and grown on me and when you see that "Works" one you have to emit it looks the dog’s.

Thank god that Globe is dropped with the Balls, that’s all we need. It’s bad enough when you drop your keys without them deciding to roll away.

That Mini showroom is going to get interesting:thumbs up:

It looks afa high. Moving further and further away from what a mini is. Anyway 4x4s are not all they're cracked out to be in snowy, icy roads. When my eldest was doing the daily hike along single track country roads into town in winter, her old clio made it everytime though she struggled at times to get past all the 4x4s that had gone into ditches.

Course that was prob more to do with the tw*ts driving them than the capabilities of the vehicles. (implication not being all 4x4 drivers are tw*ts, just these ones mentioned - dont want to start a war!)

There are bits I like about this but there are things that just don't look right. Noticed there is no scoop on the S version. Also the back end is questionable, I am looking forward to seeing it though in the flesh so to speak.

Good find, interesting, I said that they will be doing a front wheel drive version as well as the 4x4. I think a lot of folks don't understand the need for this car or like it but why would you get one as a front wheel drive only, strange.

I just get the feeling this is for the US market and its usual stomping ground with the four doors will be the school run here in the UK.
