Ok, so I'm thinking about adding a bit more power and have been a bit inspired by the american in Go-Mini this month with a NOx kit. Does anyone have any experience on the following:

1. Will the addition of NOx be insurable?
2. Is the gas available readily and does a cylinder last long?
3. Can you remove it before selling it without major work/ replacement parts?

Any help would be appreciated.

Why not just go to BBR and get the 240 conversion!!;):D

try this link it will give you some of the info that you need

http://www.holley.com/nosnitrous/index.html

a cylinder will only last as long as you want it to :D

it is illegal to have noz linked up in your car in this country, it is not illegal to have it installed but u cant use it. to install noz to holes have to be drilled into ur engine to fit injectors. aint worth the hazzel as it is expensive to refill the bottle. i recommend getting a bigger intercooler as this will increase ur bhp and give better response. plus it looks phat

It's NOT illegal to use! Fifth Gear gave away a Nos Golf Diesel a few weeks ago.

If you go to Wizards Of Nos (http://www.noswizard.com) website you will get all the info you need, as well as the cost involved. The kits are removable too so you can return the car to standard. No holes need to be drilled as the Nos is delivered throught the fuel injection system.

Insurance might be a problem though. I know that Adrian Flux will quote for cars with Nos fiteed but some others might not be keen.

It definately legal as I checked this one on. The reason I'm thinking about the NOx route is that it is less of a job to install and remove and is just a bit different as far as I can tell from many of the conversions done in the UK. Thanks everybody for the websites - I'll be looking at those this week and making a decision!!

steve.....behave yourself!;)next you will be playing trance music, driving with glo sticks in your hands and wearing burberry!!!!!. Go with julz suggestion, far more sympathetic to the car and no nasty drill holes in the engine. Insurance wise it does bump it quite a bit expecially on an already swift car (or it did on a burberry clad patient of mines) I think NOx is only really useful for track racing and not for "real life" Let us know what you decide:D

Was there not something in an earlier episode of GoMini about fitting NOS to your mini?? I think DinkaDonka toyed with the idea too!!:D

Yup you're quite right... but I'm gonna be a total geek and remind you.. NOS is actually the name of one of one of the suppliers of Nitrous Oxide Systems... ;) Shouldn't it really be NO2???

Just the same way that Viper stripes aren't really... they're SHELBY stripes.. only brought back into fashion recently by the Dodge Viper..

(Sorry... rant off... hey.. I've not had one of those for a while... must be slipping!! ;);)

NO is Nitrous Oxide, the x bit on the NOx stands for a number and is how many oxygen bits bonded to the Nitrogen bit! :D NOS would be a compound with sulphur I pretty sure. Now thinking lowered suspension, 220 or 240 BBR, Oz OZ Superleggera's and an Aero kit. Bit worried about torque steer as it's pretty bad already.

Nitrous Oxide is N2O. (NO2 is Nitric Oxide. It is one of the ingredients in Viagra and might boost your performance in some areas, but not in a MINI probably!;)). Nitrous Oxide is actually 2 atoms of nitrogen bonded to one of oxygen.

It boosts power in an engine because when it is heated enough it breaks down into nitrogen gas and oxygen gas - the oxygen allows more efficient combustion and the nitrogen just vapourises, taking some heat with it and helping the efficiency of the detonation still more by slightly reducing the intake temperature. There is also another wee bonus in that the way that Nitrous Oxide breaks down it increases in volume, giving an extra wee bit help to the piston.

Nos is just a contraction of NitrOuS. People call it Nos cos it runs off the tongue easier than N2O. I don't know why they don't just call it laughing gas cos that's quite funny!

Here endith the chemistry lesson! I'm off to get a life!:(
