Picking up my R53 on Friday and want to fit a reduced pulley but not sure what I should be fitting, 15%-17%-19%. Also what are the best plugs to fit along side this upgrade
Thanks in advance

Got to get a I/C if you get a shortened pulley, either GRS or the GP one. 17% is what most get I think

It depends what you're looking for, there won't be more than a few hp difference between each pulley.
Uprated plugs and IC are a must regardless to keep temps down.
As a rule of thumb i'd go for an 11% if you're planning to remap it with a high rev limit. If you're keeping a stock limit a 15 or 17% will be fine.
I run a 16% pulley and its the best bang for your buck mod there is

Thanks for the replies guys, will need to save some pennies for the IC

Get a pulley on it, it'll be fine until you can afford a GRS. 15% or 17%. You'll love it!

17% pulley ordered, uprated the plugs and fitting a BMC cold air, remap at the end of the week when I get my wheels back, can't wait not driven the car yet

why you getting a remap at this stage and who is remapping it?

Was told it would benefit from a map, get the air /fuel ratio right, don't fancy melting the engine.
Angel Tuning is going to map the car

who told you that? Yes it will be of some benefit - very very small, as the stock ecu has more than the ability to adapt and cope with 'simple bolt on' mods.
The air / fuel ratio will be right / slightly rich (read safe) as the mini runs rich anyway, and the way the injectors are scaled is by the amount of boost the MAP sensor reads, reduce the pulley and the map sees more pressure, the ecu tells the injectors to put in more fuel according to the map sensor.
How much are angel tuning charging for the (small) amount of work? and what are they mapping with? custom tune?
Do yourself a favour and save the money you would spend on a map, and put that towards either a manifold or an intercooler (with a 17% regardless of what anyone says it is adviseable to get an intercooler) and a GRS intercooler will give you more than a tune will *at this stage*

Gotta agree with Lee mate.
The mini ecu is very good at adapting to minor changes. A remap really isn't necessary until you're going for big power.
Save your money and go for an intercooler instead :thumbs up:

i would say the same i put a manifold air filter and grs intercooler on to a 200bhp jcw and it was fine
i have now put uprated sparks and also injetors and box from the 210bhp and got the 210bhp jcw map put in and it seems to be running rich now when ticing over sounds like it going to over fule and cut out
so will be looking to put on a 2% enlaged crank pully and get it re-maped at that point

A re-map is a waste of money at this stage... As er previous posts they cope perfectly fine with the standard ecu. Guys on MiniTorque are running 250BHP plus with no tune! They react very well with the mini ECU.
Put the money towards a GRS, itll give you more power than a remap by keeping the inlet temps down conciderably.

which kind?
if it is anything other than an ATI superdamper then dont. there is a dampened crack pulley on the mini for a reason, adding a light weight undamped version is a risk I would not be willing to take.
you could install a cam for £300 fitted and the JCW map would allow you proabably around 240bhp with the rest of your mods

was thinking alta but now maibie not the thing is my car seems to be running ritch well i know it is as it flames out the exuast when going hard on the power
what would you think i would be best going for you seem to know what your talking about would i be best for a smaller s/c pully or a cam or what

Definately a cam, you have an 11% pulley on the car already, the latest trend seems to be for people opting for bigger pulleys (i.e. 11%> 15%) over the smaller pulleys (17%+)
The difference between changing from an 11% isnt really worth it from what I have seen, I currently run a 17%, but with my red line currently at 7,700rpm its pushing the supercharger too far outsie its limits, so I'm opting for an 11% or a 13.20% - yet to make my mind up.
I would recomend the newman cam, 'design spec' says its designed operating rpms are from 2500-6500rpm, so its really a cam gear for torque and area under the curve, I still make power with it up to 7,700 so I dont believe that the power tails off after 6,500rpm. You will get more power, and more smiles from installing a cam with your current set up than you will opting for a smaller pulley :)

Cheers for all the comments guys, new to Mini's, last one was a R50 so wasn't that bothered about tuning it, Thought the remap would be a good idea, it certainly was for my Scoob
Will have a rethink about my plans, how much you talking for a GRS ic

a new motorsport version is around £425
a new standard version is £400
second hand market commands £300 usually
The reason a remap is better for a scoob is because thats how you up the boost with them, fitting a smaller pulley to a mini does the same thing. If you was to remap a mini without a pulley you wouldnt be able to get any more boost ;)
