We have a Classic Mini (1996 MPI) - we had lots of problems with it from day one. We paid £3200 for it when we bought it, spent around £1200 on repairs for it to break again a few months later (different problems). It was off the road for months lying in a so called 'mini specialists' yard waiting on him repairing it. EVENTUALLY we got it back and another £540 out of pocket, by this time the MOT, Road Tax and Insurance were up. The engine was running fine but there was welding work needing done to get it through its MOT. My boyfriend decided it would be his 'Summer' project ..... LAST SUMMER! needless to say nothings been done apart from ripping the seats out and the head cloth :(
Dilema now is, the guy who done the 1st lot of repairs has been in touch today to ask where the car is now, as he's interested in buying it to 'do it up' and sell. I've explained the situation to him. He wants us to give him a price, I've NO idea what kind of price? We know we'll never get ANYWHERE NEAR what we've spent. Can anyone advise me what kind of price we should be asking for?
*Sorry for the essay*
Jade.

OK,
What model is it, Cooper, Cooper Sportspack, Balmoral etc etc
Is it standard or modified in any way (standard is better in my opinion)
Mileage
What bits need welded, does it need any new panel, paintwork etc.
The more pics you can put up for me the better.
Particular areas that you will want to pic for me are
below the head lights
bottoms of doors
A panels
Seam covers on all 4 corners
Boot floor
Front and rear bottom valances
Sills
And general pics showing the general car

Actually from your intro thread I have spotted pics of your Tahiti Blue Sportspack Cooper.
You need to get me more info on the weld areas that are required, any paintwork required and any mechanical issues.
I wish I knew at the start of this week that you were selling as I ended up buying one on Tues night to do up over the winter.

Thanks very muchIan, I'll try and get up to date pics asap. I know it needed quite a bit of welding in the boot floor, the sills and scuttle panel?
It's a 1996 MPI, thats about all I know. I'll check the mileage when I get home, and find out some more info from Colin ;)
Here's a few pics of how she looked prior to Colin tearing the seats out etc !

To be honest, I hadnt thought about selling it until the guy turned up offering to buy it today haha!!
It was mechanically sound when we took it off the road, but hasn't turned a key since a year past December, so I dread to think what's what in that dept now :(

To be honest the mechanics are nothing to worry about onthese cars. Its the rust that is the problem. I have started one no prob that had sat for 7 years.
If its not got a daft mileage but needs the structural work as you mention I would think you could get anything between £1500 - £2000 for it, depending on how the actual visible bodywork is.

I've talked this over with my boyfriend, we think we're gonna hold onto it and restore it. He's just started work offshore, he's hoping to get stuck into it when he's home.
Funny thing is I had txt from someone else today asking about it!! No ones asked in all the time we've had her then two folk in the one day !!
Thanks for your help and advice though Ian ;)

Thanks, I loved it but it brought us so much grief!!!
However, Colin's determined to get it back on the road and hopefully with his new job he'll now have the time to do it :D
