I've got the first week off in September :p and have decided to do a 4 -5 day road trip all over Scotland (in the Mini of course). Can anyone suggest some places that are an absolute 'must see'. Also any good B&B's or places to stay over night. Thanks guys!

well if it was me.

I would drive up from Edinburgh to Sky.

Then do a calmac Hopscotch 12 taking Uists Lewis etc etc. check out the calmac website

cause I'll tell you this as amazing that the west and the highlands is for roads and scenery you will be blown away with what the islands have on offer.

You could also squeeze in Orkney.

That said the Roads on the TWR were awesome. The scenery unbelievable

I'd love to do the hop-scotch thing as well, my friend just did it in his Campervan and said the islands were great fun.

fort william would be a good place to stay and if your adventureous, try camping at glen nevis campsite (http://www.glen-nevis.co.uk/touring/index.htm), facilties ar 5 star, heated bathrooms with power points for straighteners + hairdriers, and cubicles for putting on make up etc (so i'm told, but WTF??)

if your further north and need somewhere to stay, i'd personally vouch for
http://www.glebe-end.co.uk/ in nairn.

ask for the room with the seperate bathroom ;) big old cast iron tub for a good soak, right near the water too!

cheers

I am moving to the isle of Arran tomorrow it is the most amazing place ever. I have an amazing place with a guest house so your welcome to stay. Arran is called Scotland in minature so where else. Also you can do an island hopscotch from here.

You have *got* to do the west coast route up through Applecross, etc!

I'd suggest going across to Oban, over Connell Bridge, up to Fort William, then head up to Applecross, then Gairloch, then Ullapool. The roads between Gairloch and Ullapool are absolutely awesome. The views will make your jaw hit the floor!

West coast every time. The beaches at Morar are stunning and not far from Fort William - are there not some old run notes kicking about? They'd have good roads and amazing views!

Check out the Twilight Run thread for photos of the West Coast, I'd recommend Glencoe over Oban and avoid Loch Lommond instead either head across from Cranlarich or if you are going from Glasgow turn off towards Arrochar and Inveraray at Tarbert

The Twilight Run was awesome. Alot of the roads there were good. But also a lot of the roads done the east side are also great. Go up one side back the other

Great pics Stewart!

Getting quite excited now as there's been so many good suggestions. Bought a big poster map of scotland, I'll be getting the drawing pins and 'post it' notes out soon in order to plot my route!

I'd reckon you'd see one hell of a lot of Scotland in 4/5 days

1) West Coast - see Twighlight Run notes as previously posted (THE best run I have ever had the pleasure of being on)

2) Elgin to Grantown on Spey, the Whisky route, then over the C0ckbridge to Tomintoul road, leading over towards Ballater & Braemar

3) Perth - see the run notes from Craig's past runs (he call's it Perth Pleasure  but I reckon that sounds a bit cough:swingerish:cough)

4) Borders - see the runs notes from AndyP's past 'Heart of the Borders' runs

The above noted would be absolutley awesome :thumbs up:
