Metal tyre valves

I've got metal tyres valves but they make it really awkward to get air in the tyres using garage pumps. Can I get normal valves or are they needed for some reason?

I've shoved my bike track pump in the boot for the time being!

got the garage to replace the valve that was leaking with a shorter necked one
