Hello :computer:

The MINI Club of Calgary, in Alberta Canada is hosting a 50th Anniversary Run Celebration on August 22, 2009.

As our city's name comes from Calgary on the Isle of Mull, I would like to know if someone from New MINI Scotland, would be interested in helping us out by driving our club flag up to the Isle of Mull in July or early August for a photo of the flag, against a backdrop of Calgary and a bunch of MINIs. I can arrange to have the flag couriered to an organizer in your group along with the courier costs to get it back to Calgary by Aug 15, for this adventure. Our flag will be signed by Members in our club and by the honourary members from your club. We hope to have the photo and an article published in Modern MINI and MC2 Magazine. Please let me know in the next week or so, if this undertaking has merit.

looks a two man job for the best effect, I take it you'd have to have a pic of the flag at the sign of the Villlage on mull and a few shots showing the general area.....

Pity I'm in Glasgow...but there is a few lads up that way..

We could do this on Tuesday 23rd July if that is any help.

Don't really want to do it at a weekend as the roads & ferries are usually choc-a-block with the weekend being "change over" day for the tourists!

Whats the numbers on the ferry? is it per car, out of interest?

We will be up in Fort William area the week after Stephen, so if you can't do it, then we might take the corran ferry and then over from lochaline to fishnish. . ;) Might be a nice day out for us to Mull.. :thumbs up:

Ferry from Oban - Craignure can take 70 cars + a few hundred foot passengers.

We are quite happy to do it on 23rd July.:thumbs up:
My concern was getting the flag back to Calgary by Aug 15th if we left it any later.

This is starting to sound really good, I am investigating which courier has the best connections into Scotland, I am thinking someone like DHL. Who should I send the flag to perhaps you could PM an address to me. Thanks for jumping on the bandwagon. :thumbs up:

Here in Calgary, it is the first day of the Stampede and there was a two hour parade this morning through the downtown core. Then it is chuckwagon races tonight and for the next ten days, I think this is probably unique to Western North America. Temperature is currently in the low 20s.

Having a couple of pints this afternoon, Yaa Hoo !!

The flag is enroute, should be in Scotland on Wednesday. Getting the ball rolling in earnest, on the 50th Anniversary Run. We are hoping for our biggest run since the release of the Modern MINI, keep track of us on our website. Thanks to those for helping out with the transport and photography of the flag in "Calgary", a picture outside the pub is always good, as our flag was originally unveiled in a brew pub.

I have the flag now and have a couple of sigs on it already. It will be going to Knockhill on Sunday and will prob get about 30 to 40 sigs there. Then it will be back on the road up to Oban to Stephen. :yes nod:

It's like a military operation this...

Hi There :yes nod:

It sounds like the flag is making its rounds, :thumbs up: that sounds great, looking forward to hearing more stories of its adventures.

I have been a bit quiet this past week as I have been away from my computer the last six days as I had the fortune of getting tickets to the McCartney concert in New York and could not pass up that event, I'm a huge fan.

Thanks again to all who are participating in this endeavor. On my end we will be getting an article in the local paper on Aug 7, will forward the article.

Cheers :bigwave:

This was really fun to see unfold and I have already posted some of the pictures to our own website. This is working as a warm up act to the main attraction. I will be posting pictures along the way to our August Run. I managed to get the local newspaper interested in the story and a couple of cars are going for a photoshoot this afternoon.

I have enjoyed having the chance to talk to a few of you though PMs and one day I hope to come to Scotland again and meet you all in person. I was in Glasgow and Edinburgh three years ago and really enjoyed sightseeing and a few "Heavies".

Keep in touch, if anyone has a suggestion for another joint adventure for next year let me know.

I almost forgot, I was asked by a co-worker of the name of the fish monger in Oban who sells fish at the pier. As he used to live in Port Glasgow before moving here 20 years ago and would periodically drive up to Oban for a visit and some fresh fish.
