That's not quite right. 118 800 maintain a directory that individuals can search to see if the person they want to contact, but don't have the number for, is on. If they are, then 118 800 text them your details so that the individual you sought can contact you. They do not give you the individuals number directly to comply with privacy legislation and the ICO's guidance.

Whether it's right or not, i for one am not going to take the risk and get bugged every minute of the day by cold callers. It's only like the land line, ex directory stops the majority. If i want someone to have my no. i'll give it them:smilewinkgrin:

I was just pointing out that removing your number from that service will do little, if anything, to the probability of your number being cold called by sales people. Users of that service will not have access to your number.

Use the Telephone Preference Service (http://www.mpsonline.org.uk/tps/) if you want to avoid unsolicited sales calls, both on your landline and mobile. It's the only service that organisations are statutorily required to consult.

:thumbs up:wasn't meant as an attack or anything and thanks for the info. One question then is i've always used TPS to stop unsolicited calls on my landline. Wasn't aware that they offered aservice on mobiles. Strange thing is i've never had an unsolicited call on any mobile i've ever owned?.

Hence my original post, does this change the 'availabiliity' of mobile numbers?

No. It doesn't make your mobile number available to anyone.
