OK, its not my car its Jackie's, the Honda Civic.

We need to find a replacement, the only requirement is better than 30mpg on average. This car has to either be practical or have a wow factor to keep me happy. We've drawn up a list of nearly new or older cars that you can get a comprehensive warranty on: -

Audi TT TFSI
Audi V6 Diesel (A4 Avant or A6 saloon)
Chrysler 300C Diesel
MINI JCW
MINI Cooper S (high spec)
VW Sirocco
Golf GTI
BMW 3.0D (3,5 or 7 series)
BMW 330D
Jag XJ Diesel
Jag X-Type 2.2D Sport Premium Estate
Alfa Brera 2.4JTD
Alfa 159 2.4JTD Sportwagon

Obviously the JCW is high up on the wanted list but supply could be the issue, the 330i BMW is a surprise entry due to its amazing economy.

The 300c is plastic fantastic inside but drives great.

I thought the drive would have been the worst bit about the 300C.

OMG, here we go again....:bigwave:

For me, I would have the XJ Diesel. Fantastic engine and you can get one 2 to 3 years old for buttons. :thumbs up:

that or a BMW Diesel as the engines are amazing and you get great economy as you say. ;)

Don't like golfs, plus a can't see a 2.0 4 being a patch on a 3.0 V6

Good luck getting upwards of 30mpg out a 2.0T.

The TT, Scirroco, and Golf will not do 30mpg if you enjoy driving.

My 3.0 V6 Quattro Petrol Audi A4 Avant is currently doing 32mpg on the work run. Mix between motorway driving, and stuck in traffic. Cracking big engine, 220bhp. Big heavy car, but it still shifts a little bit

Is it not a struggle getting 30mpg out of JCW 'S' as well

Accorduing to VW the Scirocco gets.............

Urban - 26.6mpg
Extra urban - 47.9mpg
Combined - 37.2mpg

and according to Audi the 2.0l TT gets.........

Urban - 26.4mpg
Extra urban - 47.1mpg
Combined - 36.7mpg

Not much in it between these two......!

i would say the 3 or 5 series bmw diesel sports, the engines are immense and very quiet for diesels and the fuel consumption is very good too imo

Not for me anyway. I drive pretty spirited and average 33mpg.

I think the new R56 Mini engines have better fuel consumption than the R53s.

Curve ball, and knowing how you like something a bit interesting, what about an Alpina D3? It's VERY high on my shopping list - 200BHP diesel...

.

I can't understand that, My R56 S has not seen a motor way yet, only driving about in banjo country so far, giving it a wee push here and there and getting 34mpg just now. When I picked it up the average fuel consumptionn was 44 mpg, not quite sure how that was managed.

you should have said, I had a peugeot 307 1.4HDi.
Nice big motor, great on the mileage (50mpg) and £35 a year to tax.............it certainly was no Coop S

The Dogfather
6th June 2009, 08:24 AM
I've seen 48.7 mpg in my Clubman S on the 35 mile trip to work.

Update - I arranged a test drive of a 335D Msport, only to get a phone call to say it sold just hours after I left it.

My Vote is a White VW Sirocco but then again you look to have a wee bit of cash so I’d like the TT as well……….
All of a sudden I seem to be noticing Stunning White cars….

The Dogfather

I test drove nearly all the cars, I was least impressed by the JCW but I think that was down to the fact I've got a MINI so there wasn't that big a difference to what I drive now.

I like the Chrysler I hell of a lot but Jackie hated it so that one is out. Its all going to come down to the deal I can get. Order of preference and its pretty close run.

1. Audi TT
2. MINI JCW = BMW 3.0D Coupe
4. Brera 2.4 JTD (drove a 159)

I didn't get to drive the Sirocco but I'm not sure about its looks if I'm honest.

28 seems low, yours is the turbo not the supersharger:lol: . I have been no angel with mine but by no means am i booting it everywhere, and most of my journeys have been less than 15 miles....so far. It won't know what's hit her when the twilight run happens.

Jackie likes them so I said I would have a look.

Anyway narrowed it down to 2 cars an Alfa 159 ti JTDm and a 325D SE Coupe. The Coupe has and upgraded stereo, its got the upgraded wheels and its a great car to drive. The Alfa is a great deal on a good car that looks stunning.

I have to pick one by tomorrow

Aye, seconded!

325 or an Alfa - would be the BMW every time for me. Alfa has more character, but then the BMW won't see the inside of the dealers between services ;-)
