well where can i start ... on saturday out for a drive and all of a sudden there was a popping noise {sounded like a exhaust manifold gasket} Pop Pop Pop she went. Pulled over and popped the bonnet to find the #2 plug had embedded its self into the GRS cooler:ragin: ..... So would anyone have kicking around a JCW works cylinder head cam ect ... all the best and check your plugs

Not so good.. :frown:

Is the damaged head a JCW? If so id be intrested in buying it.

What has happened then, a plug not been tightened properly and blown out?

GRS intercooler fooked aswell?

Just finished the car .. what a job .... wilcox head fitted ... new cam and chain... hydraulic tensioner changed.. and of course a new belt for the auxiliarys ... also noticed play in both drive shafts so changed them both as well.. had to get a new GRS cooler... good job that was there as there would be a nice hole in the bonnet... money well spent a very responsive and smooth car to drive ... fitted two yokahamas to the front for traction... big improvement on the grip ..... Glad its over .... carnt wait for a run now

Well the same has just happened to me, was driving along and out of the blue of BIG pop and the engine management light came on, engine dropped on to 3 cylinders. Pulled over and found a touch of oil on the top of the head, which pulled my attention to the No.2 spark plug HT lead which was sitting up a little out of its housing.
The spark plug had stripped the thread on the head, looking at a JCW head but think as a cost effective exercise i will get the head helicoyled.
Its bloody hard to get a lowered mini on to the back of a RAC truck, not an experience i want to have again.

Nope, no damage to the intercooler thank god.
Just the front bumper took a pounding getting on the the RAC transporter.
Got a top mechanic that works at my garage and he reakons that he might be able to helicoyle the head without removing it. Already tried and tested on a Evo rallye car he works on. So fingers crossed.

The Mini breathes again, :thumbs up:
The very talented technician we have working for us at Lawries Garage has managed to breathe life back into the mini and without taking the head off.

Your right craig dodged a very expensive bullet there. Although i haven't got the bill yet.
Managed to come across a new head that has only done 7 miles for my car which was not needed. but am gonna keep hold of just now as it was a fairly cheap buy.
Now just need to find those new wheels i want. lol
