As per the title, if you are ~40, what do you pay for insurance?

Ken, at Douglas Park MINI, if you were buying a new car, they had a Norwich Union/Aviva insurance deal where you'd get a week's free insurance if you allowed them (NU) to give you a quote, so I went for it.
Norwich's 1st quote was £275 fully Comp, protected No Claims, Legal Cover, etc with a £220 excess. I did the rounds of about 8 other companies (took bleedin' ages!), and the NU one was the best. Closest was about £30 higher. When I phoned back to get a year's cover, the nice Indian Gentleman (spot-on service, very well spoken, polite and knew what he was doing) gave me a REDUCED quote of £251 all-in, and that was after adding my Dad as a 'named driver'. NOBODY EVEN CAME CLOSE TO £251.
As I said, I think the actual Norwich Union 'Free Week' promo is only if you're buying a new car from a MINI dealer, but you could give them a try for your insurance cover anyway. I'm 46, and was paying £540 for my modded JCW 210 from Adrian Flux, although that included Breakdown Cover.

Ken, we're a youthful 37 & 35 respectively. We're paying £411 for our R56 Cooper S which has the dealer fit JCW tuning kit. That includes about £20 for some motoring legal protection.

Not got an R56, but, maybe the info is relevant, when i was changing the M3 from a 2005 to a 2008 the insurance actually went down, even though the car was new, a V8 and worth an extra 30k
For some reason the fact it was a new car made a big difference, Direct Line were the insurers

I had that with My Cooper 57 plate….and my old Honda Civic.. The Cooper is near enough dead on the same price for a more powerful car…worth ten times the value….

Just been on the phone to Directline to get insurance sorted for the S.
My current insurance runs until August so decided to stick with them for now. Will be shopping around come August though
Premium is £350 which is £100 higher than some of the online quotes, but this did not include CHILLI pack etc.
I am mostly miffed about the £450 compulsary excess on the S :ragin:
Is this the norm for everyone else's policy?

Hi I ve just done a quote for a mini cooper s worth £11000. I am only 33 and my wife is 32 and with direct line it was 326.00 with a 350 excess. But it was dearer when I done the quote for a cooper s checkmate worth £11000 for some reason it was 385.00 with 350 excess:confused:.... now I just need to convince the wife about the car:D.... ooooh by the way these quotes were for 10 months only and get 2 free...

Another reason for me to be disappointed with Directline, no such offers available to loyal customers :frown:

Tesco:lol::lol: Direct line quoted me £324 but was allready with
tesco, first renewal from tesco was £420:frown: phoned them with
other quotes and they dropped there price:yes nod: can't remember
of hand what excess is.... think it was about £400...
Play them against each other till you get to a price that seams
to be the best offer, and take that:thumbs up:

Granted mines an r53 and Im 48:sad: but have you tried "go compare" Im with e car and Its about £225 f/c and protected with £350 excess. Other people to try are H&R insurance , Aberdeen based, Ive got my bike with them and have garaunteed to beat my car renewal when its due. This of course could be down to where I live , theres not a lot of car theft etc at my postcode. Famous last words:blush:

Having read the other posts, my Norwich Union Direct £251.00 Fully Comp, Protected No Claims, Legal Cover and £220.00 Excess seems like a pretty good deal to me... I was quite disappointed with a lot of the 'On-Line' quotes I received - the cheapest quotes I got were over the phone!

I decided to go with Liverpool & Victoria.
All factory mods covered and insured. £248 with unlimited protected NCB, £350 total excess and legal cover included.
Directline will lose all our business (two cars & house insurance) after this!
