this pic taken by (I think) the Soho satellite which is 1.5million km from earth
the transit of venus (which means it's going across the face of the sun). Allan was the first one to see this transit in the Inverness area.

another cool pic showing you the activity of the sun (on a nice day when the sun is shinning and we look up) this is what it is busy doing. Makes you think! The solar flare loops that you see in this picture can be large enough for the largest planet Jupiter to pass through without even coming close to touching the sides.

Here's a question for you (or Allan..)

Last spring when I was living out in the country I noticed something in the sky a couple of evenings when it was dark, just looking up with the naked eye.

There was what looked like a light going across the sky,it looked like a plane passing, but there were no flashing lights, just a steady white light. I figured it couldn't have been a plane, obviously cos there were no strobe lights on it. it's trajectory was pretty much South / South West, and it seemed to go a little bit faster as it was overhead, and obviously silent. I noticed something very similar one night a couple of weeks back too, same trajectory..
Could that have been a satellite visible without a telescope?

more than likely the ISS 95% sure he is on this always has Southern trajectory of some sort. It's not visible everyday because the ISS is not high in the sky and because we are moving etc etc etc
