Hi, im looking to upgrade the sound system on our 2008 R56 JCW . The car has the upgraded HI FI sound system which is ok, but doesn`t really have any deep bass or punch if you know what i mean.. :shut up:I had the hardon kardon system on the old cooper and found it excellent :thumbs up:,so thats what i aiming for again... Have been looking on Newministuff and have pondering about these upgrades....

Don't bother with the rear speakers, spend the money on a better set of fronts. The rears just muddle the front sound stage. Top end home music hifi systems don't have more than 2 speakers so why do you need them in a more confined space.
The ideal setup from a quality point of view is component fronts with the tweeters mounted around dash height or slightly higher and a boot subwoofer. A four channel amp with the rear channel bridged to the subwoofer is ideal. The R56 door panels suffer from vibrations, but some dynamat around the speakers would help reduce that and reinforce the mid bass.
My system consists of Rainbow SAX 265.2 (http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/7056.html), a 400w Focal amp (http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/10641.html) and a JL Audio sub, can't recommend this setup enough.

Hi Dogfather and thanks for the advice :thumbs up:, it does sound like a good setup but a little to expensive for my pocket just now ... I dont really want to go over around £200 . Do you think that the rears and the amp is a waste of time and money then??? Should i save for a few months for a complete system  Regards Lesley and David

Rears are a complete waste total overkill in such a small car. Save up a wee bit longer budget about £100 - £150 for fronts, plus £200 for a good 4 channel amp then add a sub later.
Remember the cabling and fitting will probably set you back another £100 though.

I dare say Mikey could put together a kit without rears if you ask him.
