I do'nt have a Hi Fi system for playing CDs or Records it got nicked when my house was broken in to which happened twice :argh::argh:

TV stuff is all Panasonic which I can play the ipod through and stuff but only listen to music (radio real fm) when I'm in the car.:blush:

Oh and if I was going to spend the money to get a top system for the TV then I would be tempted by Sunfire

and their cinema ribbons look cool my kind of size of speaker no bigger than a packet of fags;)

I've just got a bog standard Sony TV. Have no interest in purchasing home cinema surround. Stereo is a sony gigajuke. Love it for not having to bother loading and unloading CDs. Got decent sound given its modest price and small speakers. Intend buying the wireless thingy to go with it for through-house music but isn't a priority at the moment. I think it would be fair to say that I'm a technophobe.

I have a denon seperates, all in the loft except for the Amp. I have 4 leads to this (all gold connectors) to my TV, PS3 and IPOD and PC. Has'nt cost me the earth but I get a decent sound. Used to have far more expensive equipment, unfortunately my daughter (now aged 5) apparently thought It looked like a toaster and as such fed it bread and things like that. So I guess priorities change as you get older and all that expensive equipment gets replaced with a shoe budget. If you do have kids you will know what I mean. At £40-£50 or so a shot at least once a month over say 5 years ......well lets say i could have a sweet system now, and that's just one childs shoes, don't get me started on the rest:argh::argh:!

In the lounge I've got a Sony (STR820) 7x100w Amp which does all the latest HD Audio, my fronts/centres are Celestion A303 and the other 4 speakers and sub are from the Tannoy SFX system. The Bluray player is an 80Gb PS3. The setup is about as good as you can get for the money.

Upstairs I've got my old amp, not very old but didn't do HDMI 1.3, its a 700w Pioneer cinema amp, which will soon be bi-amping a set of Wharfdale 8.1 SE and a tannoy sub.

I've also got a Onyko mini system with gale silver monitors in the bedroom.

Ipod 60gb classic for music, docked in an Apple dock with remote control, hooking in via gold connectors to my Pioneer 5.1 surround sound, it's a DV-55 which at the time it came out was the dogs! Sounds awesome, loud but clear, and so much bass!

It's getting on a bit now though, so due for replacement at some time in the next couple of years, the aim is to get decent separates and hide the kit away and control it via a universal remote, thus avoiding the "child thinks it's a toaster" scenario. I can but dream...

Dont really listen to music that much in the house as I tend to listen to my music in the car instead but when I do put music on in the house it comes via the H/K soundsticks and glass sub woofer hooked up to the iPod.

I set our system up a few years ago so it's all old stuff and none of it is B & W quality, but then it wasn't B & W prices either.

Amp/Receiver: Denon AVR1803
Front & Centre Speakers: Wharfedale Diamond 8.1
Surrounds: Kef
DVD Player: Toshiba SD220
Sub: MJ Acoustics Pro 50
TV: Hitachi 42 Plasma - bought just before all Hitachi's went crap.

I have Sky+. Haven't bothered with Sky HD as I've heard a few folk having trouble with the boxes. That said, I type now with a Sky+ box refusing to record anything. Love Sky+ for what it does, hate Sky+ for how unreliable it is.

My Sky+ box scart RGB output is piped through an RGB to Component converter and then up to my Hitachi plasma. I get almost as good a picture from that as I would from a HD signal.

So, didn't cost the earth, but wasn't done on the cheap either. Sounds absolutely frikking amazing.

All the audio stuff was purchased with pro advice from Sevenoaks Sound & Vision in the Grassmarket.

Although I have to admit, I listen to the sound, not the system.

Nothing exciting!
A (getting elderly) Philips surround system with the tv / dvd / Xbox
and some pretty good Harmon Kardon Speakers and a sub with the PC.

Flat's too tiny for any decent sound system. The loud tunes happen in the car! :cool::thumbs up: (Which I think may be due for an upgrade this year...) ;)

Used to have a Cyrus system (amp & cd player) c/w Monitor Audio speakers but sold that (wife found the speakers offensive :ragin:) and now have the following:

1. Opus 500 system c/w wall pads http://www.opus.eu/products.php which pipes music to nearly all rooms in the house (still work in progress).
2. iMerge S3000 250gB audio server http://www.imerge.co.uk/Products/S3000.htm which holds all of my CD collection.
3. Marantz iPod docking station.
3. Sarotech Abigs media server http://kjglobal.co.uk/acatalog/abiqs_HD_Multimedia_PlayerDVP570HD.html which holds all of my DVD collection.
4. Monitor Audio Gold in-wall speakers in family room.
5. B&W in-ceiling speakers in sitting room, bathroom, landing area, master bedroom & en-suite.
6. Panasonic plasma c/w BT Vision in sitting room.
7. Rako lighting system http://www.rakocontrols.com/ (unfortunately still sitting in a box in the garage :sad: )

Ultimately want everything (heating, blinds, alarm etc etc) to be smartly controlled in the house when and as funds can be released by The Chancellor (the wife!) to allow.

I forget some of the model numbers, but it’s a Cambridge Audio 640a azur amp, with the 640 azur cd deck and the 640t DAB deck, technics cassette player, pioneer turntable

TDL floorstanding speakers, forget the model number, big f*ckers though, and a polk audio 8” DSW (I think) woofer

Also, the Philips living room pc is connected up to it for itunes and tv watching/recording purposes, as well as live for speed obviously, with the G25 wheel, but we’ve got an LG surround system/dvd player as well.

So there’s 2 floorstanders for the stereo, 4 floorstanders for the surround, the centre speaker for the surround, and 2 subwoofers, one for the seperates, one for the surround. Too many speakers in the living room!

Don't get me wrong, not saying i don't like it, or it doesn't sound good, but, when you build equipment to look right then there must be some losses somewhere

In Sioban's room its a Samsung 42" with Bose surround system driven by Sony Control Centre and Sony DVD. Also have Marantz CD player and JVC kareoki deck (she hasn't worked any of it out yet)
In my room its 27" Samsung TV and cheap Phillips DVD / surround system with LG DVD recorder, Acer laptop and Compaq computer
Got Sky in both so paying Murdoch a fortune every month.

Used to be big into HI fi but got over it!!

Roland Drum kit is on the landing and beer fridge is in the garage

I think I've damaged my ears from my clubbing years and am really sensitive to loud noise - God I've turned into a right fogey!!! :frown:

What I would love (I'm hoping someone could help me with this) is the music system that's piped in every room of the house from one central point. Saw it on TV once and thought I would love that! My house is being renovated just now and its something I would really be interested in putting in. Probably costs a fortune! :thumbs up:

Of course you can turn the sound up if you want, same as any volume related piece of equipment.

Probably costs a fortune! :thumbs up:There are many ways to do this, obviously the one Gaj linked to and others similar to it.
I have speakers in various rooms driven from an amp in my living room, so, the basics are an amp with the source to supply it to feed speakers in the rooms you want.
One thing you'd have to consider with this way is that if folks want to listen to something in the living room then you amp would have to be able to play to 2 zones, ie you main room and then also to feed the speakers where you are.
A lot of the amps available nowadays can do this.

I know, its not just the loudness, my parents have surround sound, but I think because my ears are so sensitive it feels weird! I know I'm an oddball. :D I'm just not keen. As for the speaker system, we're both real music lovers and its something I've wanted to do in the house for a long time. Thanks for both suggestions, I'll certainly look into it. :thumbs up:
