Can anyone tell me how someone would stand getting damage caused by going over a pothole paid for by the local authority? One of my boys picked up a bill for almost £800 this afternoon due to damage to his car last night on his way home from work. In streams of traffic so wasn't as if he'd bounced over it at speed.

take lots of photos of the pothole(s)

contact the council and let them know. If it has previously been reported and they haven't done anything about, the rule of thumb is that they are liable to pay for repairs, however this doesn't always work out. I buckled a wheel in a pot hole, reported it to the council, turned out it was caused by Scottish Water, so contact them, filled out a form and got a cheque in the post.

Best of luck with it Sheilz, don't give up easy tho.. :thumbs up:

Had a similar experience. Hit a pot hole doing 30 in a 40 limit. Wrecked the wheel, tyre and threw the alignment out. £600 bill. Council point-blank refused to accept liability. They said they had done a check on the road only week earlier and there was no pot hole there. They said they had been informed of the pot hole by another member of the public only minutes before I called it in, so they couldn't possibly be held liable for it.:frown::ragin::ragin:

Is it just me or have the roads around Glasgow got seriously worse over the last few years……..Had a spray team, yeah I know quick as you like and useless I was more alarmed to get my freshly cleaned Mini as far a away up the drive as I could as they blasted all over the place.

The roads around Aberdeen are pretty shocking. Potholes and split surfaces all over the place.

The Roads of Glasgow are riddled with pot holes and theres hardly a manhole thats Not sunk to some degree.
Thats half the problem ...
The other half is, the Useless Workers who are meant to repair them dont have a clue and the manhole or pothole dosent last a week.

Maybe its because the repairs are done on the cheap, short cuts all around, and less to do with people being lazy or useless. Its the same here. No sooner are repairs undertaken than they start undoing. I'd put it down to tight budgets. Might make councils change their minds if everybody complained or approached them for mechanical repairs caused by holes and gouges in the roads but me thinks a lot of people would just curse under their breath (some not quite so under their breath :ragin:) and nae bother chasing them councils being reknown for their slow and cumbersome way of dealing with things - apart from parking tickets that is (:ragin::ragin::ragin:)

I’d go with the lads doing there best but the trouble is Public Works covers the roads so that same team of guys can be on litter duty or storm drain repairs, sewer repairs and of course Snow and Ice removal…Basically they are not given the right tools and training and workies……doing bit and bobs……..

You know a call comes in there is a pot hole, the Manager does not get on to a specialised trained division, oh no he opens his door and sees Billie,Davie and Bob just finished clearing litter from some place and asks them to go do it…..they then get there shovels……..Have to say when we got our pavment crossing done for the dual driveway they did an outstanding job of it…but the guys filling the pot holes with the spray I had sympathy for as it was a quick fix that was a waste of time…

I’d say feel free to send a quick E-mail with your concerns about the roads….:thumbs up:

Yeah - I thought that until I moved down South. Aberdeen's road surfaces are like driving on a velvet carpet compared to inner town/city roads down here.

All connecting roads and motorways are immaculate but they just seem to leave inner roads. Collapsed drains, torn up speed bumps, potholes - its horrible!! :frown:

Sheilz, there was a big article in the Evening Express about Pot Holes in Aberdeen today...basically the council is blaming the lorry drivers, the lorry drivers are blaming the Council and the Evening Express had 4 spelling mistakes in that article alone!

The holes are everywhere in the centre, in the suburbs, in the slums. They are taking over the city. I have a theory that these are not just 'potholes' these are ALIENS and they wont be satisfied till they have gobbled us all up

Bludy shokin about the spellin. I blame the teechurs masel like
