Could anyone advise how to get scratch marks out of the finish of the paintwork caused by bird crap scraping the hell out of it when it's washed off? :(

<waits patiently for Wul's response> ;)

Have you tried t cut from Car Plan.
T cut will remove surface scratches.
Or use Autoglym Super Resin 2 to fill them in.(only available in trade shops)I think.;)

I thought about t cut but my big mate Big G made a fair point saying that I don't really wanna t cut a year old car. I was given a kinda finish restore kit from a mates mate from Supaguard but I dunno hoe severe it is so I dunno if I should try it or not. It's 3 bottles. you put em on one at a time till they dry then polish off and put on the next one. As I say, I just dunno how arsh it is.

I had super guard put on before delivery and don’t particularly like it very much. Iv’e been using Super Resin 2 for over a year now and although it doesn't remove scratches it hides them very well.
I would if I had a small area of scratches like what was left behind by our feathered friends I would use t cut only in that area only and then polish with the super resin 2.But admittedly I have never tried it.
Anybody else got any ideas.

Now Big Col - there's no need for a smart @rse! ;)

Well - Firstly DO NOT USE T-CUT! As big G says it's far too harsh for your new paint finish.

Unfortunately you need to use some form of polish with a fine cleaner/ swirl removing abrasive in it. Meguiars do one called Scratch X which is the bee knees - it will restore the paint colour and hopefully get rid of the scratch - but it will take a few doses depending on how severe the etching is. They also do a product called clear coat body scrub which works in a similar fashion.

But if you only want to sort this particular area then I can help you when you come and get the mats from me as i have both products and can spare you a blob or two! ;) Meantime give the area a good wash and wax to protect it.

As a future prevention - always remove bird poo asap! it is acidic and will eat your clear coat! To remove in future don't wipe the area - soak it in car wash if washing the car then rinse the crap off - DO NOT RUB AT IT - bird crap also contains gravel etc and this is what scratches the paint after. Or soak it with a piece of wet kitchen roll before rinsing the poo off.

Keep a bottle of quick detailer and a terry towel in the car and use this to rid and poo when occurs away from the hoose.

Finally - keep the budgie in the cage and away from the MINI! :D

<grins> Wasn't being a smart @rse Wul. I just had faith in your patience and good nature when it comes to assisting people with paintwork problems. Everyone on here knows that when it comes to paintwork you're a Sound And Dependable guy.:D:clown:;)

After the last time the feathery lil gits crapped on my motor and marked the finish I've always wiped it off straight away but it happened when I was in work again this time and I never saw it until I got home. When I did get home I was straight out with the sponge and bucket.

Rather irritatingly the new marks now add to the old one I got when I got my car hand washed in The Marches car park in Stirling. They wash your car while you shop and I never noticed the swirls until I got home as it's dark in the carpark. :(

With regards to the mats, I ain't forgotten mate. I've just not been able to stop and get a breath recently. I'm hoping to have a quiet weekend this weekend so I may pop through then if you're going to be about ya shining example of a human being you. ;)

Heh Heh! No worries on the mats Col - i'm away to York on a stag extravaganza this weeknd so maybes the next weekend! Unless you want to arrange a similar transfer involving the pimpmeister Moffat and Big G? I'm gonna see the troops off on the MINI GB run on may 3rd and i think WillieM is gonna be there! then he could pass them to Big G if he doesnae get abducted by aliens first and then Big G could pass them on to you - did you follow that at the back? :D

as for being a Sound And Dependable guy - i know, the therapist says I really need to get a life! :I

But on a more serious note - if you want to invest in a product to rid those nasty swirls and poop marks - buy yourself the following from www.seriousperformance.co.uk and you'll be well impressed.

1. Tube of Megs ScratchX
2. Pack of applicator pads
3. Couple of Microfibre Towels
4. Bottle of Gold Class Clear Coat Wax.
5. Bottle of quick detailer

That lot should set you back about £25-£30 download the order form and pop it in the post with a cheque. It will serve you in good stead. Or nip to A1 Autostores in Bathgate to buy the stuff off the shelve (although they don't have as good a range of MF towels!). Do the whole car with scratchX first and it will get rid of a lot of the swirls and refresh your paintwork instantly!

There I go again - must take another dose of my medication!

<blinks> Ok gimme a wee while to work that one out. :I

That may be an idea, providing the 2 members of the handover team are gratious enough to assist of course. Then again I might just hold off and go a wee run through to Edinburger the following weekend just for a blast.

Thanks for the link to the site too! I'm dive on it when I get home tonight provided I can find my chequebook and remember how to write one. :)

I must say, I'm most impressed with the selection of Meguires products our local Autosave has, plus it's only 2 minutes up the road from my work!!;)
