Has to be done, got my name down for the twilight run but this looks a fantastic run as well.....I know this road well but it looks like a few twists to my general route, only small deviation is that Glen Orchy when in fact you’ve gone on the Fort Willaim road. I take it this is the B8074…………..god Google earth strike again………anyone been up that B8077?

Apart from the 8074 and that B839 which I’ve just found and I know this road well……….

Put me down if you don’t mind…….

Craig
10th June 2009, 04:26 PM
well, the man upstairs must really hate me as I now have a BIG problem....:argh:

I have been invited to a very good friends wedding on Sat 1st (MarkyC and his partner Nicola) :thumbs up: and that will mean a few sherbets (which is bad enough)

however another one of my close friends has invited me to his daughters cristening on the Sunday 2nd and I really can't say no. :frown:

So, the question is, do I change the date (I know I know, this has been discussed some time ago:rolleyes:). or does someone want to take the lead on this run and leave the date as it is.

If I was to move it, it would be later in the month of Aug...

Again, sorry for this, but life sometimes plays you a curve ball...:argh:

why would you not have your car by the 9th August:confused::confused::confused: It can;t take that long to fix surely:p:pWell, it's a long story, but, massive heat is generated and according to some folks the top mount intercooler can't cope with it.
The ecu can't adjust enough and makes the car run lean hence the burnt spark plug.
Several "fixes" available, none too cheap and all takes time, so, just working out the best option

Look forward to following your story of the fix I'm sure it will all be sorted in the end just fine. Birds were the ones that finally sorted out my problems in my old S which didn't have anything like what you had done but still a bill of over 1.5k to fix that's over the 5 to 6k conversion was not what I wanted but still I was then able to sell the heap of sh1te afterwards.:argh::argh::argh:

Craig,

I am hoping to join you all on this run but I am unable to leave Glasgow until about 10am due to family commitments so was hoping to do a "Greig" and meet you in Oban, if that is ok?

There is a chance I could catch you up on route, probably after the Green Wellie stop when you take the single-track detour and I don't, but I'll certainly make Oban for lunchtime.

Cheers,
Del

Corran Halls car park.

Easy to find.

At first roundabout at bottom of hill as you enter Oban turn right down to esplanade. Round roundabout and half way back up to the first roundabout turn right into Corran Halls carpark.
Hope that makes sense!

You will see the car park as you enter the first roundabout, only about 200 yds between roundabouts.

Craig&Jude great run as always my fav run it was a pleasure to join yourselves, Stephen & Alison and Alan & Karen for the picnic, sorry if some of the topics were a bit off:blush: dog talk:frown: sorry.

Yeah sure the roads were busy --- some nutters either won't reverse to let us past or they insist in not going one smidge over 30 in a 60:sad: but you know what didn't matter one bit to me I enjoy the lazy style driving and just eased my bum into the drivers seat relaxed and enjoyed the whole day:smilewinkgrin:.

Anyway we had a wee chance to open things up on the road home:smilewinkgrin: bet you were shocked just how quick my wee coop is:shut up: ok ok I know I know:argh: but one can dream:p

no I'm sure it wasn't me ( this time !! ) I was going in the opposite direction from the line of Minis.

when you drive a Landrover you tend to relax too much and take in your surroundings, especially up in Inveraray, but I'm always aware of who's behind me and try not to hold anyone up.

Iain

ps I would pull in and let you all pass..................honest

This guy was face on, on the single track road......:argh:

Would he reverse back a few yards………….Nope……..
Mind you he’d already seen about fifteen Minis before us……..:D

So the Mini's look impressive, I always think how long does it take for the other people to think “Hold on that’s a **** load of Mini’s” as we pass.

Yeah, that guy was an arse. I was with Ally S in the lead MINI at the point we met that Landrover. It's a 4x4 FFS, put a couple of your wheels actually OFF the tarmac! He could also have reversed about 50metres back into a passing place but was too selfish to do that

And yeah, I think that too although I reckon some folk are too thick to even notice at times...

Actually, what me and Susan were laughing at was the people at the junction waiting to get out as the first mini past and followed by another 19! lol :D

Well that's Dougall just home from his first run. He'd a fab time and so did we. Many thanks Craig, hope whatever has been troubling you is sorting itself out. :thumbs up:

Here's some pics we took on the run and one of Dougall's wee friend he met on the Applecross road. "Danboyne" (I think I got the name right) posted on the site a week or so ago saying he would be travelling from Luxembourg to the Highlands. Sadly no one responded to him which made him think there was no mini scene in Scotland. Needless to say he was delighted to know that the opposite is true. He had spotted a fair puckle minis nipping through the windy roads at the tail end of August last year so we figured that must have been the Borders Run. Was pretty cool though meeting another clubman on the Pass.

Also saw two different groups of classic minis winding their way through the Highlands. LOL second group had trailers bigger than the cars.

Dougall got home without getting any stone chips. I'm keeping stoomb about the state of one of his back shoes

Dougall with his wee pal.

View from the top of the pass

Just had to include one of the boat. Its called the 'Rose Maree'. It was my dad's and took us over the loch in the first leg of our journey to school. It never ever broke down  which was a bummer since school meant being away for at least a couple of weeks at a time :ragin:

Glad Dougall had a good time, I take it you actually got into Applecross as opposed to our passing it last time on the TWR. Also good that you put the guy right about the mini’s and the fact we go runs all the time. He’d have got a shock if the TWR crew had all turned up on top of the pass like we did.

Well done on the stone chips, washed the car yesterday and have a few more, I don’t mind so much but I got a cracker of a chip on my side drivers window:argh:..but not worth getting it fixed its only two small marks top corner.

So were did you end up in the end all the way back up to Durness?

Didn't get as far as Durness. We moved from Arrochar to Lochcarron and used it as a base to explore Wester Ross and Skye (bits of). Weather wasn't all that great so spent a lot of time eating and hiding from the rain. Didnt particularly want to share the drive with a soggy tent so just stayed put. We did get into Applecross. Weather was horrid for a start but it cleared up into a beautiful afternoon so we were able to enjoy the breathtaking scenery. Sometimes when it rains in the highlands the rain seems to get trapped in the mountains and can take forever, or so it seems, to clear up. Bonus was the midges didnt seem to like the rain either though when they were out they made a bee-line for Munro. Shame he came home looking like a survivor of the plague. It was his first trip to the highlands since he was just a loon and his first time to Skye. You could just hear the midges "Oooo, fresh meat" ;):bigwave:

Shame about the chips on your car though its pretty good to escape with only one or two. Had a couple of encounters with some 4x4s that seemed determined to push Dougall over embankments so that they could thunder past :ragin: Fortunately those kind of numpties are in the minority.

Thanks Sheilz!

It was also great meeting you on the Applecross road - great adventure! We did also see a number of MINIs around, several in Stornoway and down the south of Harris, but yours was the only other Clubman! Will post up some photos when we have a chance to go through them all.........

Cheers!

Ian

PS Forgot to mention - the Clubman is Babar, and it's Sue's MINI. Mine's a Chili Red R57 Cooper cabrio called Celeste..... And we did 4500km in our 3 weeks of holiday, including getting to and from Scotland, via the DFDS ferry (Amsterdam-Newcastle).
