View Full Version : Mini Road Tax Due, Am I Getting Done?

Ok, as many of you are probably in the same boat I got my road tax renewal through yesterday. I opened it to find I'm due £120 for the year on my R56 mini cooper. Strange I thought as Parkers new tax calculator tells me I was only due £95.

So I re-checked and they have changed it to £120 on Parkers site, but next year it should drop to £95 as my car is after the break point. Ah but it's not that easy is it? The c02 emissions they have got on Parkers are 129 for the mini while my tax renewal has 139.

I checked BMW's mini site and sure enough it's 129. Even got my V5 out to check and that says 139. Are the DVLA wrong I thought?

I dug out my handbook, checked there and it says at the back 139 for the c02.

My car was registered in september 2007 just after the break point for the new tax (see link below). Who is right, the manual or the site... or have BMW changed the Mini's c02 emissions within the last year? How can the date of registration have an impact on the c02, surely this should be date of build?

Any help please...

Does your car have the stop start as that makes a difference im sure to the band that it is in.

It doesn't no.

Surely though that would only make a difference to you MPG not c02 as the car would still be burning the same fuel just not for as long as the engine would be off when stopped?

If I remember correctly, c02 in a MOT is tested by continuous running of the engine for a period of time not distance.

It changed when they brought in the start stop, July/August 07 I think? July cars were 139, after that it was 129.

It doesnt really matter for you anyway as you are in band C which is 121-150. Band C is £120 per year.

Just checked the DVLA and you're right. Parkers must have it wrong as they are saying even if your car is the same c02 as the very same car, if it was registered the month before the break point in 2007 then you will pay higher. They are also saying different brackets for cars than the DVLA.

Shame to as Parkers are usually a good source of info.

Cheers for clearing that up though.

Buy an R56 'S' with stop/start and you too can pay just £120.
