Following on from Big Gordy's comments regarding that our wee MINI's are no wee in price, if you were looking at any other type of car, what would you buy for £21k
Note, i'm happy with what i've got

Perhaps i should mention that the £21k should be spent on a second hand car, otherwise the debate will just be like for like and down to personal choice of whether you want a MINI or not.
I'm trying to draw comparisons on whether you would actually go for that 2 seater sports car you've always dreamed of :hand: or, just invented a reason for not having a MINI in the first place

23mpg!!!!!! You must be driving like a granny.
I used to average 18 - 19 mpg. I know someone who only got 80 miles out of a tank on a track day.

Ok, not quite getting as many responses as i'd have hoped for :computer:
Anyway, my point is, if that's the cars we would have instead of paying the massive MINI prices, why hasn't anyone got one of their nominated cars

As most of you know - I got rid of my R53 for a Pontiac GTO ( Holden Monaro ) - then tried to get a new clubman JCW - but ended up with a Pontiac Solstice GXP -- 2.0L 260hp, 260 torque - 32.5mpg ( so far ) -- brand new cost $31,500.00 USD
It reminds me of my old 61 Austin-Healy Sprite and my Triumph Spitfire 1500, but it does not break down...:thumbs up:

Looked at many Solstice's when i was in the states last year, stunning car up close, especially the GXP.
When you consider the UK Pound v US Dollar you're $31k = approx £16k

cos some of us didn't spend £21K on their Minis? ;):p:D:moonie: then it's all relative isn't it, if for example 1 persons max was 21k and someone else's was 15k, then the person at 15k would look at a similar car for 15k instead ;)
I was trying to draw a comparison between values that chnage from folk to folk :yes nod:

I wanted something more reliable then a 40 year old car. Clarkson had a merc 300 kinda like the 280se and his last service was over £15000!!! Next time though....

Got rid of the TT as the running / servicing costs were too high

Before I bought the Solstice - I also looked at a Lotus Elise Sport ( $41,000.00 USD ) and a BMW Z4 M ( $44,000.00 USD ) both were used ( 2005 - 2006 ) with less than 20K miles.
I always wanted an Elise - but they let me drive it for a day.....that changed my mind. Very nice track day car - but I am getting to old for a "fun" car that could put in the hospital with back problems just getting in & out of it - LOL
The Z4 M was really nice - but with a $10K premium over the Solstice ( and it was used ) -- I had to go for the new Solstice.
Oh well.....
