Stick us down for this, also with the usual provisions re staffing.

Will probably meet up with you as you pass through the Borders. What route you thinking of - Edinburgh then A1 south, or down the A7 or A68 through ooor country?

A.:D

Will stick you down on the list.. :D

as for the route, the shortest and quickest route seems to be M74 to Penrith, A66 to Scotch Corner... The run through the Borders seems to be nearly an hour longer.. I will prob be proved wrong tho.. ;)

AndyP & Lenore
23rd March 2008, 11:49 AM
Aye, according to Google Maps, it's 184 miles and about 3hrs 22mins going down the M74 then across on the A66 then up to Croft.

And 179 miles, 3hrs 58mins going down the M9, A720 city bypass, A68, A696, A1 past Newcastle, then A1(M) to Croft.

So we would probably just see you there then. Doesn't make sense for us to go across to Carlisle to meet up then back across the country to Croft.:(

Hi Craig.

Stick our names down on the list.:D
Should be a good day.:D

Just a wee thought.
I wonder if any members from DMR want to come along as well as a joint meet, its much the same distance for them as it is for most of us.

much closer for you guys than us... ;)

Also, I may be changing this to the sat as there is qualifying and a race on saturday, and only 1 race on sunday. Want to make the most of a long drive by seeing as much as possible.

Please let me know your thoughts re this. It's not a defo yet as I believe the race schedule for the weekend has not been agreed yet.. :p

Put me down as a 'maybe' please Craig - not sure what I've got on that weekend....... probably jeans and a T-shirt. Saturday might be good - as it'll mean you don't have to go to work the next day! Depends what's on 'racing-wise' on Sat vs. Sunday.

Seeing that I work all of about 5 miles away I better put my name down......

BTW, if anyone was wanting an interesting drive to the circuit then I could suggest some great roads rather than the A66 route.

Mrs D says she doesn't do camping.. ;)

Also, having just come back from our hols a few weeks previous, I doubt we would have money to do the full weekend.

TBH Vidal, with the 3 hour journey to get there and 3 hour journey to get home, I think most people will be wanting just to get there and back as quickly as possible. I may be wrong tho. ;) :D

OK, I have decided that it would be better to go on the Saturday to see more of the action.

Hope this is OK with those that have put your name down already. I just think with all the travel involved, it would be good to see as much as we can. :)

Open to suggestions tho.. :o :D

Fair enough but there's a road that runs parallel to the A66 goes from Penrith to Alston then along the Teesdale Valley and rejoins the A66. Best road I've driven in England (highest as well). Not much more of a journey distance wise. If anyone fancies it I'll meet them at Penrith and guide them through.

Hi Colin, yes 4 of us have decided to stay over just because of the long drive (and the fact I found some money down the back of the sofa:smilewinkgrin: ) so myself, Jude, Stephen and Allyson will be staying overnight on the Sat night and going to both days...

Let me know if you want the details of the hotel.;)

I will still be leaving from Stirling at the same time on the Sat morning to get down for qualifying.. :thumbs up:

Sorry Craig, I'm going to have to pull out of this one. Taking God-daughters & their maw & paw to the pictures as a delayed birthday treat - it's the only weekend we can all make it, so I'm afraid Croft gets sacrificed to see those wee smiling faces (and the kids'). I probably wouldn't have been able to stay overnight anyway, so I'd have missed half the fun. See you on Sunday.

Tall Trees at Yarm by any chance?

You might want to pop into Yarm for food, its a nice wee town. Very posh considering its so close to Middlesbrough. I believe it where they take footballers when then come to look around Middlesbrough FC, the rest of the town resembles Grangemouth. Darlington is OK but nothing to write home about and there's nothing much around as far a visitor attractions are concerned.

Croft update:

Report from Craig for the attention of all those attending on Sunday.

Croft is a bit like Knockhill..... from 20 years ago. It's a bit barren, windy, cold and wet.... (at least we won't fell homesick from the weather). But there are very few eating places, a couple of mom-and-pop trailers selling rolls and drinks, that's all. So if you want to eat, he suggests you pack a picnic. And I've also to let you know, there's no shelters for watching the racing. So if it's raining tomorrow, we're gonna get wet. But we won't melt. Apparently.:moonie:

But there are very few eating places, a couple of mom-and-pop trailers selling rolls and drinks, that's all. So if you want to eat, he suggests you pack a picnic. And I've also to let you know, there's no shelters for watching the racing. So if it's raining tomorrow, we're gonna get wet. But we won't melt. Apparently.:moonie:

Mind and make it a big picnic!:D:D

Paul, We're leaving around 8am, heading down the A68 then A697 to join the A1M at Newcastle. The stopping at a services on the way down. Expecting to be there for about 10 to 10.30, for a breakfast/early lunch stop, then heading off to Croft to get there for about 11.30.

Thats the plan anyway.:yes nod:

Happy to meet up, but Lenore says its conditional on you retracting anything nasty you've ever said about automatic Cooper S's.:moonie:

Some great racing, well done Mark in avoiding the impromptu off roading Mr Winchester. Can't wait to see the photos.......

Not long home. Great Photos as always folks. :thumbs up:

Thanks to Stephen and Allyson for the company over the weekend, we had a great laugh.

Mark - you didn't have the best of weekends result wise, but on the upside, the car didn't look to be handling bad and also seemed to be in one piece by the end of it.. ;)

Andrew W - don't know if you had a problem or got black flagged, but your driving thro the gravel was entertaining.. :D

Great Weekend away, with today being the better day weather wise. Looking forward to more racing, but prob miss the next race as I am away on Hols... :moonie:

See some of you on the Thistle Run next week. :thumbs up:

Cracking day. Great company as usual (well, except for Vidal Chump).

Well done to Mark on today's race, 9th to 6th or was it 7th? Still, you got back in one piece, with all four wheels attached and facing in the right direction. All good.

Well done also to Andrew W on yesterday's result... but what happened today mate? Spent a while in the litter did you not?:frown:

Working on the pics, will be launching my new web site imminently - maybe even tonight.

Totally and utterly knackered!! Great to see so many of you guys making the long trip to watch at Croft. It is a great circuit to drive....in the dry....Apologies for driving like a big blouse :o in the first race but fighting for 3rd in today's race was great. I set the Lap Record as well which is bonus :yes nod:!! We had to go for a post wedding dinner tonght when we got back so I feel like I am running on vapour. Can't wait for next Knockhill round. Looking forwad to seeing some photos.
Andrew was Blackflagged for running wide too often at the first corner..a bit hash as I have seen worse go unpunished.

Thanks again for the support:thumbs up::thumbs up:

Yes unbelievable! My ABS went and must have been locking the rears up on the way in, first time caught me completely by surprise and tried to brake lighter the second time but still got sideways although not as dramatically got the hang of it for the third time though. Apparantly it was for rejoining the track in a dangerous manner which is rubbish as i remember coming back on in front of mark and driving round the outside of the second corner to see if he had the momentum to go past or not and when he didnt i then slotted back onto the racing line. Havn't a clue what the observers were thing when they called that in :ragin::ragin::ragin::ragin::ragin::argh:
