How cool is a mini ? is it possible for a car to make anything cool, a good bench mark for this is a persons music.

What music do you have in your car that could only be deemed cool by you and acceptable by others cos you drive a mini.

I will admit to AC/DC, what about you ?:evil::evil:

ELFMAN
8th March 2004, 05:47 AM
These years I are been mostly list'nin' to... the ROCK and the BLUES.

“Crosstown Traffic” by Jimi is always appropriate. “Red Barchetta” for the Rush fans. I wonder if there are any tickets left for the SECC? Saw Rush back in eighties at Ingliston, AC/DC at the Apollo, Motorhead at the Apollo in '79.....list is endless. Used to play Motorhead in my original Mini, but it made bits fall off. I also find THE WHO is a good drivin' band. Used to call my cars “Magic Bus”. Sad really...

To be honest, nowadays if I'm doing any “serious” driving, I tend to turn the music off till I slow down. My brain gets confused - thinks I'm at a gig and forgets to steer/brake etc....Headbanging and B-Roads don't mix! That's why I spent bu**er-all on the stereo.

Foo Fighters

NewMiniScotland - The Old Rocker's Refuge? This explains a few things... How's about “We Are the Road Crew” for our anthem?

The Motorhead Gig was my first “serious” one - what a start. I was 17 and had long(ish) hair and everything. Old jeans, Combat jacket with loads of badges and “Wake the dead with Motorhead” on the back with the big “skull” logo. As Springsteen said, “Glory Days”. Any more old Motorheadbangers out there? Are we an endangered species? Should I not have let on? I'll get me Combat Jacket...

I think my mum had that jacket fumigated, shot, burned and buried - almost with me in it.
Remember Gordy - “Born to Lose - Live to Win”! Woooooaaaaaaarrrrrrgh!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well I need to stick up for the Thin White Duke too - not enough mentions; and loads of the same - Foos, Chilis, SLF etc, etc but honourable mention much also go to Lemonjelly - very calming for traffic jams, Jeff Buckley ( Grace of course) Ash, and any Muse especially Absolution very loud.
Unfortunately my Kings of Leon and Athlete are both on vinyl, sound brilliant but a bit awkward in the car.....

The ever reverend Mr J.Cash and his burning ring of fire. He da man, man.

Tahra
12th March 2004, 01:48 AM
Mr Tahra here: None of that nonsense, folks. The only viable listening solution in a Cooper S is the sound of the 1.6 and the supercharger whine. Cars is for driving, Music is for my big comfy chair, a wee cask strength single malt or fine Rioja (but never together, it makes me mmaaaaaaaddd!!!) and a roaring fire, the full monty Linn fired up playing some first pressing vinyl and no Mrs Tahra to disturb me... blisss....

Have to admit to a soft spot for "Grace" by Jeff Buckley, and if pressed some early Van Halen makes great Mini Madness Music... but I am mad enough already so some smooooth classics keeps the blood pressure down and the other drivers safe... ;)

John (who is sick to the back teeth of the Man In Black played at every opportunity whenever Mrs Tahra is at the helm...)

I was there too and did the same drive although i got in about 5. like a big girlie groupie, i stayed behind afterwards to chat to the guys. they are surprisingly small!!! Was down in manchester in january this year to see them and jesus, what a gig it was. I always go to see them, no matter where they are playing in the UK.

Mr Tahra....Van Halen kick ass! and yes, all music aside, the 'S' whine is lovely.

Well, this week my autochanger has been in my flat and I've not driven the thing all week, but it does still have the following in it:

Snow Patrol
Damien Rice (saw him at Brixton last month, very odd gig, but made superb by the chello version of Seven Nation Army)
Zero7 (going to see them at Brixton later this month)
Brendan Benson (me and the other half saw him supporting a Beth Orton at Royal Albert Hall last year on our first proper date, and it's our anniversary today, so it's been in for that reason)
Franz Ferdinand
Oasis (made up CD of B-sides and favourites)

Coldplay is usually in there, Paul Weller is also in there a lot (saw him in Brixton in December - fantastic!), Blurs Think Tank (they were also awesome in Brixton), Tom Mcrae, Jet, few other odds and sodds that flit in and out.

Can't wait till I sort out MP3 in the car...

mr.b
12th March 2004, 10:13 PM
MP3's in a car rocks! ahem....getting too excited now.

i'm busy converting a lot of my albums to mp3 so i can just keep mp3 discs in the car and have a good load of my music colle3ction in the car since you can get a couple of hundred songs to a disc.

what head unit you thinking of getting?

euan
12th March 2004, 11:11 PM
I was looking at either getting an Ipod in there, or, and the current prefered option, the Sony MP3 6 disc changer so i can leave the head unit in and use the MFSW as usual. That way, I can get 200 tracks X 6 :)

Meant to say earlier, this is also in the car at the moment. Track 35 is on repeat every now and again.

euan
15th March 2004, 11:28 PM
Damien Rice seems to have this problem at gigs, I went onto his site and read some of the message boards and it seems to happen at a LOT of gigs. I saw him at Shepherds Bush last year, much smaller venue, so much better. (And yes, the random dancing nutters where there too. I didn't get it either). He also seems to use the same retort ("I'll give you 15 quid plus booking fee to go home"). Still, very good. Didn't quite follow the mad guitar solo either, seemed oddly out of place.

And the courdroy track "Mini", yes the album is a little 70's porn, but stick mini on, turn it up, I dare anyone not to sing along!
