Craig
17th February 2008, 02:59 PM
Thats the recce done, some really good roads and some not so good roads, but due to Hamiltons location, you have to go through some built up areas.. ;)

Total of approx 130 miles (50ish in the morning, 80ish in the afternoon).

Start will be Stirling Services at 11:00hrs (meet from 10:30hrs onwards)

Lunch at Hamilton (Parking at the Palace Grounds Retail Park) at approx 12:30hrs

Pit Stop at Happendon Services at approx 14:30hrs

Finish at the Gyle Shopping Centre at approx 16:00hrs

This gives most folk a longer lie on the sunday morning and home before it gets dark.

Thanks to Marky for co-pilot and writing down all the notes, had a few hairy moments on the back roads getting airborne with the back end coming round, and the brakes were glowing... :D :D :D

First post updated with this info also

This explains my current super-fit body and mind. Like an episode from 'Life on Mars'. It was all 'High Waisters' (for our younger viewers - a style of trousers), Doc Martens and spangles....... Memories..... Where's me Werthers?

I have a spare Supercharger for the Fryers if you need it Tony.

Right, Big Man - you're claimed by the way!!!! Hamburger Suppers at twenty paces. Ye've had yer chips! Are you inferring with your chortling disrepectfulness that I'm EVEN OLDER than I think I am? With these boyish good looks as well. You should see me without the make-up.

I left (SECONDARY!) school in '81 (no, not 1881..), so my 70's school lunchtime fritter-fests weren't a figment. I have Carbon-dated cholesterol to prove it! The oldest I was in the 60's was 7........

Re. 70's Fritters - Thanks Tony! I might regress into my childhood when I get them, but nobody will notice anyway..... Remember if you need a hand with anything on the day, let me know - otherwise I'm off with the rest of the NMS Tribe. I'll try to remember to bring a flask of tea, but if I forget, I'll join the queue at 'Fossy's Foods' chuck wagon!!!!

Rob - is it just us from our neck of the woods? If so, will I come down to your house just before 10am and we can do the world's smallest convoy to Stirling Services. If there's more, we can meet @ Hamilton Services as usual.

Just back in from hand-washing the car..... in the rain.... in the dark. I thought the jet-wash was a cop-out Bumble!!!!

BIG thanks firstly to Rob and Christine for jump-starting me (and the car) this morning. Just worked out that Hoovering the bloody thing (plugged into the fag-lighter) yesterday probably contributed to the flatness of the battery. Anyway, I now have some lovely new jump leads in the boot.... I can do you a good Hire-Rate Rob.

Tony - the Chipmeister - what a great lunch! What a lot of work but it was well worth it. The Fritters were pure 70's magic. All I needed was Vimto and a packet of Spangles and I was back there. I'll send you my Weightwatchers bill....... Malcolm - the world's fastest Mobile Chippie! Sioban - yer team got beat! That'll teach you to wind up Rob before the match is truly over. Thanks for the coffee William - I owe you one.

Big shout to Rob and Craig (hope Jude's feeling better) for the 'Magical MINstery Tour' ('it's coming to take you away...') in the afternoon. Still, it proved the off-road capabilities of the MINI, so nobody has to buy that bloody awful Crossman (if they get permission to build it from from the Early Learning Design Centre). It did get a bit fraught at times, but you have to see the funny side as well as the muddy side.I managed to lead my very own mini MINI Run down the 'Long and Winding Road' to the Loudon Hill Inn... Sorry folks, but I was only following the Diversion sign after I lost Rob and the Penguin!

I'll be ploughing through the mud of the Waterloo battlefield in Belgium at the end of the month, so I'll miss the Knockhill meeting. Hope everybody has a fab time (stay out of the hidden culverts, folks!), and I'll see you bright and early for the Mother of all Runs - OXFORD. Drive safe and keep the shiny side up - Bumble, you just try to keep the shiny side... well... shiny!

OH MY GOD!!!!!! I FORGOT TO THANK TONY IN MY POST.   :(

I'm really sorry Tony...I forgot to thank you for the best chippie ever eaten mate.

We went onto IKEA last night...and by the time we got home...I was really tired. This type of behavior occurs when old boys like me don't get their afternoon nap.

Whilst enjoying your best supper meal EVER!...I was trying to remember the last time i had a good supper...but remembered the worst supper I ever had.

It was in Anstruther...and it was a back street chippie that opened up. The one on the harbour was really busy.(The original owner when it was actually the best in Scotland) Big sign on the prom with arrow pointing up the side street towards the shop. It read: "Andy's Fish and Chips...You can't BEAT them!!" I was only about 8 years old at the time and my folks had taken me out for the day. We all got fish suppers and walked back down the the car on the prom/harbour. We all had one mouthful...and threw the whole lot in the nearest bin. They were rank rotten!!!.

My Mum and Dad were going on about how rotten the suppers were and I added "Yeah....Andy can throw away the 'B'!!!....The sign should read: "Andy's Fish and Chips...You can't EAT them!!"

See...poor humour at eight years old:o

So....Thanks mate...the suppers added so much to the day....and we appreciated you efforts immensely!!!

Don't beat yourself up Stoney, if it wasn't for you and Christine I would've missed the run altogether! Sometimes things can go wrong:confused:  For instance, if I'd been able to read my Run Notes I wouldn't have lost you and the Penguin in Strathaven/Muirkirk. But after we all got back together and did the Mystery Tour, we stuck it out (literally with that mud! ) and got back on the 'proper' route. Luckily we were fortified with the best Chippie Carry-Oot in Lanarkshire, as quite possibly the known Universe:cool:

Due to various work/time-related things:mad: , some of us haven't been able to organise any runs, depite enjoying numerous NMS jaunts over the years. I realise how much work's involved:confused: :( , which is why I have thought about it, but never attempted it. The majority of us have enjoyed Runs/Meets organised by a relatively small group of members and some 'new' ones in the last couple of years which have been top-notch too :D. So hats off to everybody who puts in the graft. Those of us who haven't DO appreciate it!
