This year will be the fourth outing in the sunny Scottish Borders. Last years thread is to be found here. (http://www.newminiscotland.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=10885&highlight=heart+borders)

Run date is Sunday 7th September 2008

There are now what looks like 30 ish cars on this run, so it's gonna be big'un, that's for sure.

Some more details on the run...

The Run starts in Galashiels (ASDA Car Park), then meanders over some terrific hills out the Yarrow and Ettrick valleys, then we head over to Newtown St Boswells for Lunch. Newtown itself is not exactly picturesque, but Milestone Garden & Leisure (http://www.milestonegardenandleisure.com/) are very hospitable and the food is top nosh! They are working on a special choice menu for us and I should have those details soon. it won't be a pick-before-you-come menu, but it will be a restricted choice from their usual menu, taking into account there are now something like 50 people on the run!

In the afternoon we loop around the Eildon Hills (my backyard) and then off across the countryside through Kelso (very picturesque) then up to Gordon and along the bottom of the Lammermuir hills towards Westruther, then back down into Galashiels for drinkies (soft for the drivers) at a local hotel.

We would ask you all to gather at ASDA car park in Gala from 10AM, and we'll be heading off at 10.30AM. Lunch will be about 12:30 and the afternoon session starting between 1.30 to 2pm. We're aiming to be back at the hotel in Galashiels for around 4.30pm.

The run is 130miles total. That's assuming no-one gets lost and heads off towards Glasgow or something daft like that.

Update: Friday 15th August - Lunch Details
Milestone have asked me to put forward a restricted lunch menu (taking into account there could be 50 odd folk going for lunch all at once). But they have stressed the usual menu is still available if you don't fancy something which is on this menu. it would help to get us all served quicker and back out on the roads if you are able to stick to this menu.

Sunday Brunch Bun £3.95
Lorne Sausage Scrambled Egg & Bacon in a toasted Bun

A Choice of Paninis £4.25 or Toasted Sandwiches £3.65
Mozzarella Tomato & Basil
Tuna Cheddar Melt
Ham Cheese & Pineapple

Baked Potato £4.50
Sausage & Beans
Coronation Chicken
Cottage Cheese & Chive

No problem Crombers. At least "work" is a genuine reason for pulling out of a run, rather than watching 22 premadonnas running round a patch of grass kicking a leather sphere.

Andy and Lenore, many apologies, but I'm going to have to pull out of the run. Due to work stuff and trying to get self-catering booked at short notice, I'm having to take my hols a week later than intended, so I'll now just be coming home on the 7th. This is a bummer, as I usually miss your Borders Run by being away the previous week....... Seems I CAN'T have my popcorn and eat it. Have a good one. See you on Stoney's Picnic Run, which I CAN now go on.

Looking for volunteers....

We are being joined on this run by a reporter from Modern MINI.:yes nod: They are doing a full run report similar to what they did for Craig's Argyl & Bute run a couple of years ago.

The reporter is on his own and would like to take photo's en-route and is looking for a passenger ride with a single driver.

Ideally the MINI he's in should have a sun roof so he can stick his head out and take photo's, but I wouldn't think this is essential.

Ideally he'd like to meet at Hermiston Gate (no doubt Craig will be organising a Hermi Gate rendezvous there soon) and join you in your MINI at that point. He would leave his car at Hermi gate and come down with you, and then go back up with you to Hermi gate for him to pick up his car again.

Any volunteers?

I've been reluctant to post in this thread as I'm still not 100% for joining, but the signs are looking better.

Thus my Clubman D with sunroof will probably join at ASDA and could be a camera car option if the MM photographer fancies popping his/her head out of the top or taking some shots through the back with the doors open.

We'd need to agree some details but my only pre-conditions are that:

Both my passengers are offered lifts, 'cause they ain't walking.
The photographer takes his/her shoes off before climbing around on my Tuscan Beige leather.
He/she provides an adequate safety belt and the means of attaching him/herself if he/she wants me to drive at run speed while shooting out of the back.

But it's a D, not a GP, so I won't be offended if there's a better option.

And I won't be able to firm-up anyway until Monday.

Ideally looking for someone who will be coming from Hermiston Gait, thanks for the offer though.:D

Andy, he can stick his head out of our sunroof, no probs. Someone else might have to take Mom in their car; I can supply ear plugs, but they are not too effective against Sioban, especially when you go too fast.:D

I will be there, even if its on me todd. Unless my car needs to go in again, however its had eight new valves, a Vanos control unit and a turbo wastegate so hopefully it should no be OK.

Im having some 'Technical' issues with the MINI at the moment.
Undecided if I want to risk driving it with its dodgy power steering pump. Its a bit short notice to go hiring one from Eastern and im watching the pennies as we go away in 2 weeks and looks like I may have to shell out for a new pump.

We may have to pull out or could maybe bring the 130 and sit at the back.

You're welcome to join the run in the 130 - no problem at all - if you prefer. No point in risking getting stuck between Yarrow and Ettrickbridge valleys.

Well done to all the Pool crew for another great run. Thanks for the goodie bag.
Its not as good doing the run in the beemer though so I will really have to get my finger out and get the MINI fixed.

I was having some handling issues with the beemer today, as Im sure Neil saw when travelling behind me as the back end was stepping out all the time.
I thought I might have a flat tyre but the warning light would have come on, on the dash. Anyway on the way home going past the garage at Peebles I was going to pull in to check the pressures when the light did come on. N/S/R flat. :argh:. Put air in it. Reset the light and home with light not on. Put it to 2.6 bar but went out to check it 5 mins ago and its back to 2.25bar so I think its got a slow. Hopefully I can get it repaired tomorrow as I really dont want to have to buy a new tyre before I go on hols. I imagine a 225,40,18 run flat will be £££.

But at least it got a flat on a MINI run. That will teach it, should stick to the babybmw.net runs for that car. Stick with the mini for the newminiscotland runs. :D
