BJN:
will Intravee not work with you head unit.?? If it does then it's what you have to go with.

I've got an Intravee in my 3 series - works a treat and it's plug and play into the CD autochanger loop.
Only problem is getting hold of them and the supporting hardware - you need an Alpine KCA-410i to interface to it and they are getting hard to come by now.
If you can get all the gear, it'll cost you under 200 quid (I think I paid about 175 for both bits, then bought some velcro tabs to attach it to the autochanger/sat nav cage in the boot).

$250 + shipping from BimmerNav, plus the cost of AI-Net modules - the KCA-420i iPod interface is about £55 new.

I will caveat this though - while it works great most of the time, occasionally it will hang. Easily fixed by turning the stereo off but it can be a pain. If you have a load of albums it can take time to get to something in the middle, but clever use of playlists gets round that.
