You know the feature on the Mini when you go above a certain speed the car auto locks and when you turn off the ignition it unlocks.
Does anyone know if a 2005 E46 can do the same, got the dealer to activate it, it now locks above 10 mph, but will not unlock when you turn the ignition of.
Questioned that with the service manager who told me the E46 can't unlock.

Mind does the same, doesn't auto unlock although I never asked if it could be done. Did they not give you printed list of all the things that could be done to the car?

I never got a list but just asked for it to be set up the same way the Mini was. Bit of a pain it not unlocking when I getting the kids in and out.

Our X5 was the same. Auto locks above 10mph, but you have to hit the "unlock" button yourself.

I've got into the habit of just hitting the button on the keyfob as I take the key out.
Not ideal, but I'd rather the doors locked than me having to remember to hit that button.

Ahh genius idea, think I'll start doing that.

Very useful, doesn't mention the auto unlocking though.
Convenience closing, remote control
If this is activated doesn't that mean I can press and hold the button on the key and the roof would close? Kills the battery I know but pretty cool when you can drop the top as you walk up to the car

My windows do this - hold it on unlock and all the windows drop, hold it on lock and all the windows close.

yeh but have you noticed.
If you hold it on unlock for just a wee bit of time then open you drivers door, only the drivers window goes all the way down, then closes again after you shut the door which is real handy if your squeezing into the drivers seat when you can't get the door open wide. ;) ;)
Also it's only taken me 3 months to notice :o but on the E46 Coupe how cool is the wee arm that opens and closes the rear quarter back window. electric

I wondered why, sometimes, seemingly at random the window would go all the way down when I opened the door, thought it might have been faulty

nope your fine. kinda cool feature don't you think.
So how are you liking the car.?
Are you surprised at how good the MPG is.?
BJN
8th January 2008, 08:26 PM
Yeah perfectly happy with the mpg, more than I was expecting, in fact better than the Mini ever got on the same journeys.
The car is great, looking forward to summer (if we get one this year), but gonna have to do some major detailing work, arrrrgggggghhhhhhh swirls!

8th January 2008, 08:28 PM
on a trip to Birmingham with cruise control on I was getting 40mpg at a steady 75mph. not bad for a 2.5ci straight six.:D :D using Tesco's 99.
BJN
8th January 2008, 08:34 PM
I've not really had it on a proper run yet, but 40 mpg is damn good.
Will the fuel economy be affected when the top is down?

depends on how much hair you have on your head. I guess.:p :p :p
have you checked out bmwland yet a good site for any info you need on the E46.

can't remember if the roof works from the button but hold the key in the drivers lock on lock or unlock and it will raise or lower the convertible roof (assuming the storage space bit is not being used)

I think this works if you double press the unlock button rather than hold it for a short time (though it may assume a short hold is the same as a double press?), I thought it was random too till I sat and played one day!

I'm the same, dip in and out of that site for the same reasons.
If only I could get a Sony SOT amp in the for sale forums, I'd be a very happy man!
