Too loud? Too expensive?

I'm thinking of getting a Larini exhaust for my MX5, see clip below

Do you reckon this might be a bit loud and potentially a waste of nearly £400 (back box only)

Oooooh. Very nice paul.:D ;) Not sure what the OEM exhaust sounds like, but I like the throaty growl from that.

That's what I'm thinking. But these guys specialise in custom systems for Ferraris and Lambos so the quality should excellent

Ooh, that sounds tasty! A bit like some of the Cooper S S/S jobbies out there.. You'd need to hear it under load really, to see if you could live with it..


On a nother note, my Playmini just keeps sounding better and better.. must have covered about 70K miles now, still shiny too! :cool::D

Dunno if you remember but there were a couple of MINI's from down south that took part in Cullen 2005 that had Larini systems on their S's. Sounded brill I seem to recall :)

the company I used could make one to suit (style and sound). Their work is really outstanding. (not your usual hacker - these guys are actually mechanics and VERY good welders.) :D

I'm thinking too expensive, MX5parts.co.uk do a back box for £360 and it's made of higher grade stainless steel T316.

Craig, any idea what steel your guys use?

Craig, they seem pretty good and they have a MX5 in the gallery. Trouble is they would probably need to see the car before giving me a quote, its a long way to travel to find they just as expensive as the Larini.

not necessarily, they will probably have done one already and can give you an approx price over the phone. I would give them a call, nothing lost.:D

The guys are very helpful, have an idea of what size of pipe you want and also what tail trims you want and they will have a better chance of giving you a price. ;)

Nah, at that age they cost a lot to keep on the road put me right off the idea. Plus performance wise time has moved on a good hot hatch would be significantly quicker.

I'll be considering the exhaust in the run up to Christmas, however if winter tyres become a bigger priority it may have to wait till the new year.

For me, buying one of these would be a second car to keep in the garage for sunny days. And for doing that, I'd rather have an Elise or a 356 Porsche.

Personally, I would go for the S2000 over the Z4.

I like the looks of the Z4, but I remember Clarkson ripping it for the American "sporty" ride quality, i.e. unbearable.

Of all those cars though, the latest Boxster has got to be the best choice, but probably a lot more expensive.

Obviously! :p Nah, a rear wheel drive roadster in the snow can be a little tricky, not expecting a lot of snow but I work 35 miles from home and I don't want to get stuck. :o I've got a steep climb to my house which is at 850ft.

Basically winter tyres are a softer compound so stay grippy at lower temps, at 7C they start to outperform standard rubber. They also tend to have special tread which works in snow and slush. Apologies if you already knew this....

yup S2000, just can't decide if I should go for it or not.... guess I am still fairly happy with the MINI, but really fancy a change.... theres a really nice one in glasgow, but canny be arsed driving over to see it this weekend...

Had winter tyres on my Vauxhall Nova for one winter. Turned it into a go anywhere-4x4. Cracking tyres in the snow.
