fitting a supercharger

i have a mini 1 and have thought about getting it superchipped but i would rather just fit a supercharger / cooper s engine.i have started this thread to find out if either of the two are possible.if this is possible how can i go about it.

It is possible (within reason ;)), but lots have went further down this road and realise for the money it would cost, the lack of reliability/warranty they have been much much better off just opting for a cooper s.

As my father once said too me a lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnng time ago when I was ranting on about changing my Escort 1300 sport into an RS2000.................................just flog the bloody 1300 and buy an RS2000 if you want one:rolleyes::D In the end with all the things you would need to replace/upgrade with fitting the supercharger it would probably cost more than just trading the ONE in for an 'S':rolleyes: Just my tuppence worth:D:cool:

I must add at this point I had the exact same conversation with my oldest, Ross, not that long ago when he was talking about fitting a V6 into his ZR:eek: Needless to say he listened to his wise father and just bought a V6 ZS;):D:cool:

There was a thread on MINI2 about fitting a VAG 1.8T engine to a one/cooper but the nobody had done it (there was talk of someone in US but little proof). It would be pretty pricey, and you'd never get the cash back, so is there a reason you don't want to just change to an S?

The Midland 5 speed gearbox can't take much more power. You'd need to fit the 6 speed Getrag unit if you want seriously increase the power of your One.

And, as others have said, it can be done, but, a tad on the pricey side

As everyone else seems to have said you would be cheaper and definitely a lot less hassle trading up for a second hand cooper S.

as far as supercharging the normal one engine i really wouldn't go down this route.. there are so many differences in the internals and lubrication systems along with cam profile etc that you'd end up spending a fortune for a mini one with an s engine

as for dropping the s engine in it could be done but tbh is it worth the hassle as your car still won't handle as well as either the cooper or the the s without the rear anti-roll bar also the money involved will still be huge unless you can source one on the cheap

short of buying an s in the first place if you really want to tune your one i'd recommend that lohen 150bhp kit.. it's works very well and will likely still cost less than either of the above,

thanks guys this has been a massive help. the only problem with me getting an s is that i am an 18 year old male who lost his driving license before he was even 17 lol.the insurance would b more than the car.i recently fitted a 2litre turbo 2 my zr so i know how much hastle ther is in doin an engine conversion.wher can i find out about this 150 bhp kit.

Taking that into account, I doubt "modified car" insurance is going to be much cheaper.

My advice (which you won't want), is stick to your ONE, build up some faith from your insurer (and no-claims bonus), then when you can afford an S, buy one then.

believe it or not transpanted cars cost more to insure than the donors themselves trust me i've tried

i had a 05 fiesta zetec- s and after putting bigger brakes, coilovers poly bushes anti-roll bars manifold custom 200 cell sports cat exhaust spending a horrendous amount on custom pipework for my viper induction kit i was set to drop the st engine in... having phoned around the insurers my cheapest quote @ 20yrs old was £2700 from adrian flux and that was with a £500 excess

i was paying £680 for the zs with everything declared so i priced up the cost of insuring a newer more expensive st in the first place with all my previous transferrable mods on it... low and behold £900... hence i bought the st in the first place

i had 2 years ncb no points and i live in a lowest insurance risk area

unfortunately the one-cooper remap and an induction kit/exhaust for now is also what i'd recommend sticking with as any further and the insurance companies will tear u a new... errr lol

I hope i'm reading this wrong and you're not implying insuring it as a one, when infact it would for all purpose be a modified S ( that looks like a one ):confused:

If insurance on a S is out of your reach then insurance on a S engined one would be even more so.

Even a Lohen stage 3 would be well up there in line with a std. S.

i was'nt going to let my insurance know about the conversion.didnt tell them about the zr.and i got away with it. it was still insured as a standard 1.4 . when the police pulled me over i did'nt get any hastle even with a massive front mounted intercooler sticking through my front bumper as the only info they could get on the car was the named drivers on my insurance policy :D. does anyone else know about the 150 bhp conversion.

Before you're justifiably jumped on by others, I should point out, we love to help out new members with advice and assistance wherever we can. There's plenty folk on this site who can answer many questions about modifying a MINI.

But I doubt anyone here will voluntarily impart any advice if we knew it was going to be used by an illegal driver, taking a massive risk.

it was only a thought but i spoke 2 my dad after i wrote that and he said he would put the car on his company polisy (which i am a named driver on). he then got a quote and the insurance said that i would b paying the same amount of money 4 a modified mini one as i would an s so i think im goin 2 either do the conversion or do the 150 bhp thing if i get any feedback on it.the reason why i lost my license before i was 17 was not anything to do with cars i just got cot on the road between my house and a feild with my motorcross bike.
