How many MINI'S (R50-2001 onwards) have you owned &

As I am now getting that wee bit older & memory is obviously not what it was or should be (see other posts as to forgetting some people's current MINI'S) , how many 'new' MINI'S have you owned since launch in 2001 (including the R56) & what one (if you have had a few!!) was your favourite??

Well I kind of have had 2....

- 1st was a 03 plate mini One ....which I won in a free to enter competition! (And sold 6 weeks later)

- 2nd one is a R56 MCS.

Which one I prefer....mmmmm...well the new MCS is much better / quicker, but not the same when you have to pay for it ! So would probably have to say the free mini !

Owned 2. 52 Cooper with Chili pack, I bought as a 21st gift for myself & my current baby on its way JCW Cooper S .

Defo has to be the current, its nippier! & I had to pay for both for appreciate the two.

I've had two

1 - 2001 Indi Blue Cooper, loved it as there weren't many mini's about at the time. Bonnet stripes made it stand out too.

2 - 2003 Electric Blue S - was the car I wished I'd had from day one, but as the S wasn't out when I bought my Cooper I didn't have much choice! Kept it for about 20 months before I had to sell due to the big miles I'd started to do. Still miss it.

2004 mini cooper convertible hot orange - used
2007 R56 cooper sparkling silver - new
2007 R56 Cooper S dark silver - new

Favourite is a close tie between the silver one as it didnt have a single fault, not even a rattle in the 1 year we had it and the other favourite was the 2005 cooper as I really liked the JCW sound kit and I think that that car could be flung into a corner harder than my R56 S.

I have owned 3 and my sister 3........ You could say that we are hooked...

My Favourite was the Complete Works car it was so much fun and i had it before the standard S was even launched.. I miss that car... I saw it a few months ago in a car park in Newton Mearns Glasgow. It was an old pensioner that was driving it.... I hope he has ear muffs as the sound that little car gave off was fantastic especially with the JCW Open Cone Filter as used on the Challenge Cars.... I don't get the same sound from my current JCW Sound Kit but i would imagine some of the engine work done on the Complete Works car added to the sound with the ported/polished cylinder head (more free flowing).....

Another great car although I've used it less trying to keep the miles down but also seem to prefer a more "comfortable" car these days, must be old age :eek: :o

Had a red and white '02 cooper from new. Full of rattles and airbag warning light permanently on. New gear box after a couple of months and three handbrake recalls, allegedly. Oh, yes, some other wiring type recall as well. Never felt the same about it after my other half planted it head-first into a fence, although it was repaired and looked good as new! Put about 54K on it and traded it in once the TLC had expired.

Now have a white and black '07. Prefer this colour but it shows the dirt more! Had to have a new windscreen as the first one cracked, but no other major problems yet. Slight rattle in the dash, maybe? Only over cobbles, though!

Things I miss about the old one:
The cheery "bong, bong, bong" when you opened the door with the headlights on.
The rear-screen de-mist thing that switches itself off after five minutes so it doesn't get left on too long.
The horn you can reach with your thumbs with both hands still on the wheel. On the new one I have to plant my hand in the centre of the steering wheel italian-style, so I don't use it unless I'm really angry!
And I don't like having reverse over by first gear. I always park in gear and it was easier to tell which gear I'd left the old one in. Only a matter of time before I pull away in the wrong direction...

Loved them all, each had different things we liked , the cooper was the nicest but the S is just brill to drive.

Simple really John.

1. I wouldn't sell my car to replace it with a R50-52-53.

2. I don't like the look of the R56....so wouldn't replace it with one of those either.

I'm not arguing that some may feel the R56 be a better and faster car than the previous model.

But I wouldn't sell mine for one.

I went to view and test drive a Porsche Boxster S today. Lovely looking car. It had a tiptronic box...but a bit boring to drive really. I have decided against it at present...but may look at one again in the future...maybe a manual though.

The drive home in my Mini was better...much:D

So...now I don't know what I would have next...nothing catches my eye.

Two- Hamish - Indie blue 04 and Specy 04 facelift version electric blue. Both coopers ,both new. Only got Specy as it was cheaper to trade in than to upgrade the bits that I wish I'd had the foresight to have put in Hamish otherwise would only have had one mini. Felt such a traitor getting rid of Hamish though I know he's living with a new family in Inverurie and according to one of my colleagues looks quite happy in their driveway. If they were both in the drive I wouldnt be able to choose. Both fab wee cars.

Now, I prefer the Cooper to the One, as it has nicer toys, and the facelift perfected the MINI.

However, the feeling of owning a MINI in the very early days was special, and sadly i just don't get that feeling anymore.

(51) Cooper Chilly Pack, Red with white roof, colour coded, spotlights. Full of problems
(53) Cooper S Dark Silver Chilly pack with Black roof.
Prefer the current car Cooper S because faster and doesnt seem to have to much rattles and problems of the last one.
