Got this Fletcher Speedboat last April in a bit of a state. It origionally had a old renault engine inboard with a stern drive unit. We got the engine going but the stern drive was going to cost a fortune to replace so we modified it to take an outboard, (seemed to be the best soloution).

All looks cracking Jim. I wish I had the spare time to do that sort of thing. Major cudos to you mate.;)
I've merged the threads together for you. You can only post 10 images in one post, but each thread can have as many posts as you like, each with a max of 10 images. If that makes sense. :D

Cheers Andy didnt think about doing it that way.
Did think about spending money on a stern drive but then id still have an old engine and reliability problems. Cant really have reliability problems being Lifeboat Crew if broke down n got towed in would be ripped all the time lol :D
Also got a video on you tube:

The seats seem to be a problem as they dont take the constant banging over the waves and are bent out of shape already, anyone know of where i could get a set of (strong but light) seats for speed boats?
Cheers

Jim, is it just me or is that outboard a tad big for the boat it's attached to? Know very little about boats, TBH, just looked kinda big to me. Like the front of your boat is gonna tip up in the air.

Just the boat climbing onto the plane Andy...quite normal. This can be trimmed.
Seen loads of Fletchers with 90 Mercury engines on them. Yamaha is a far superior engine to the Merc....and the 75 probaly puts out the same if not more than an old 90 Merc.
You can play with trim to increase speed. You can lift the hull out of the water. But the higher you trim...the more unstable the hull becomes in the water. That's what F1 speed boats do to. They trim to the point where only the cavation plate on the engine leg is in the water. That's why they sometimes flip!
Incidentally...did you know that an outboard doesn't sit right in the middle of the transom? This is to elevate the torque from the prop. The torque actually screws the boat over so that it has a list.
Ours sits 1/14" to the one side.
Fletcher is a good hull....they were great ski boats in their day!

Jim, our boat has fibreglass bucket seats...covered with vinyl. These are just screwed to the floor. We have one reversed so that a spotter can watch the skier.
I'm sure you could make a couple of seats...

Yea Andy the outboard is mabee a tad big for the boat, usually a 40 to 60 hp on that size of fletcher. More fun with a 75 tho:D . Also more fuel with the 75. The engine will drain the 25Litre fuel tank in 50 mins which works out at about 7mpg if your lucky :D
A full tank will take me to Cullen and back for an Icecream so all good
